How long have you lasted without dying?

This is my first Elite game and I've played for a couple weeks now and haven't died once. Is that normal or am I just that awesome? Seriously though, how long have you lasted without dying and do you get any recognition for it in your stats? I have really not come close to dying yet, but I have had some moments where instead of fighting, I fled because I knew I was outmatched.

I didn't die until I felt truly safe and kept pushing my luck. Then at the most routine of runs I chose to buy more than my ship was insured for, in order to fill my cargo up and make the best of the run. It was this run that I had a mishap involving a reversal of direction as I had so routinely done when arriving at a station from behind it. My sudden change threw off the oncoming Enforcement vessel that was attempting to circle me to scan.
-
I had about 15 frames of time to see the viper coming straight at my window, and enough of a moment to softly gasp "oh?", before we both completely exploded.

I died when I was in Sorbago and traveling to Sorbago, but so many times that it may be my yearly limit.

I like to live dangerously (in the game) so ive died several times. I get a rush when i sneak illegal goods into those starports with the mail slots. Ive killed myself several times when i panicked and boosted into the wall or ping ponged in the grille (i dont do silent running). Then there was that one time i decide to go mining on the dark side of a planet and smacked into an asteroid. In my defense, i didnt know the lights on a sidewinder sucked that bad :p. I would say the longest ive stayed alive is 3 days.

That's hilarious!

The only two times I've died was because I hit tab inside the station. Now I figured my way to deal with this and I have yet to die :) Me things my signature would help here greatly.

lol it would have been great if they stuck a murder bounty on you too :D

I cannot remember the last time I died, I am very careful.

Dying is extremely expensive and I for one will do anything I can to avoid it no matter what.

Rebuying my Asp in the event of a catastrophe for example is well over 200k and that is definitely set to climb as I upgrade it and then move onto bigger ships.

I can afford to die several times over of course but as the grind to profit is an ever-ongoing thing, to die through accident is a tragedy but to die to a player pirate is an instant ragequit for the rest of the day.

Didn't notice my Asp's forward velocity was quite high in an asteroid belt in the Orion Nebula about a week ago.

You don't want to know the tirade of abuse my monitor got !!!

Edit : I had been drinking, quite heavily (it's Xmas don't ya know) :p

Mr Braben wants you all to know that you never die in Elite. That kind of situation is instilled in FPS RPG and all other flying sims. I can still remember the first times of getting killed in those games and it did shock my own body and mental state. At first it made you feel demoralized as you were not skilled and you were made to feel weak. You soon got over that feeling of dying so often as you went Rambo without care. After feeling like it no longer mattered so you then begin to think about trying to lose lives less and make it more real. Some games like VIETCONG CO-OP gave you 1 life so you teamed up and played more responsibly to prolong your life.
You actually sweated !!!
I'm building up to that in Elite. So far lost 1 Eagle and 2 Cobras due to a bug! So the feeling I have so far with losing ships was of disappointment.

There is nothing quite like the long lingering death from asphyxiation, realising you cannot quite reach the next starport and you run out of fuel. I switch off all I could to save it and nearly made it but alas no - I DIED. There was also this one time, at band camp, when I got a penny whistle stuck up my exhaust pipe and... well... you can guess the rest :)

Ouch, that sucks. I would not have thought of shutting down different pieces of equipment. I'll have to keep that in mind if I run in to a similar situation.

Since joining in late Gamma, I've died three times. Two of those were my own dumb fault; the first was when I managed to cream my Eagle into one of the little external weapons platform of whatever it is that you find near civilian outposts. I launched, tucked the gear in and boosted early, only to instantly smear myself all over the thing.

The other was when I jumped into a system I didn't know and failed in my intent to scoop enough fuel to jump back out again (brown dwarf or something), so I had to push the big red Kablooie! button.

The third was also in an Eagle, but had nothing to do with me; a Cobra got a little overzealous as I was approaching a station and smashed right into/through me. It was in shadow, so I didn't see it coming until way too late; it was the stereotypical "oh, sh..." BOOM! scenario.

I did get within 13% of it last night. I decided to stop by a high-intensity conflict zone (at Ho Hsi) and almost had my bum handed to me before I got oriented. I was hit within 5 seconds of dropping out of supercruise by something (no idea what) took out my shields and the first 14% of my Cobra's hull in an instant, and then someone started plinking at me right after that. Between the FSD cooldown and then waiting for it to spool up, I just about bought it.

I've got enough experience with the low intensity zones that I feel I can handle myself, but that's the first visit I've made to a high intensity zone since Beta, and it was a fair bit more stressful than the last time...

Haven't died yet, including Gamma. To be fair, a lot of that was solo while I fully pimped out my Cobra. Still, I haven't died and I only play OPEN now. Crosses fingers.

I probably died at least once during alpha/beta, but I can't remember.

Since gamma, just the once. I was dog-fighting a Python in my Cobra. He'd got me down to 60-70% hull, I'd got him down to about 40%. He'd boosted away from me, so I boosted to catch up. Then he managed to pull up in front of me and *boom*.

The interesting thing was I had a whole pile of bounties waiting to be cashed in. I lost those, but I *did* have a bounty waiting to be cashed in immediately after going through the insurance process. What must have happened is that I died, lost my bounties, and then in the brief delay before the insurance screen the python died and I got the bounty credit!

I suppose that's really a bug and I should report it, but I prefer to think of it as a nice surprise! ;)

The day before the Gamma wipe! Had more money than sense and heard of a free for all. I can't remember how many tricked out Asp's and Cobra's I went through that night but it was more than I care to remember. I do remember a heck of a lot of fun tho!
