How many backers are there out there?

Stumbled upon backer CMDR 456XXX yesterday - was quite surprised. Nearly half a million. Any idea how many of us there are out there? Has Frontier ever released the number? If not, what's the biggest CMDR number you've seen?

I don't think the numbering system is serial.

I think it's phased from when their account was created- 1xxx commanders from Alpha, 2xxx from Premium Beta, 3xxx from Beta 2, 4xxx from Beta 3 etc.

I could be very wrong though.

i think my number started with a 6, finaly blagged in beta 200 i think it was or a late 1something

Star Citizen lists the number of backers on their website right up front for all to see. I have looked on all the ED and Frontier websites and they don't list the number of backers anywhere that I can find. I wish they would. It would be nice to know how many of us there are!

I joined at the start of premium beta and could've sworn I was 46XXX. But perhaps I'm confused!! I just got excited when I saw a number approaching half a million as I thought the numbers were indeed sequential.
