How many credits to move to a t7?

So I am nearly at 20 mil credits (total worth) now, I've seen many different amounts quoted, how much should I have to move to a t7 (or clipper)?

Including insurance, reasonable upgrades and trading money.

For 23.5M Cr you get :

Class 5A FSD
Everything else D-Grade (optimum Range, 4D Shields)
Full Weapon/Utility Loadout (Class 1 Gimbals/Chaff/Point Defenses)
216t Cargo capacity

For longer-range Trade hops, you might want to add your preferred Fuel Scoop to the calculation.

To cover 5% insurance, that would add ~1.2M Cr onto that.
Then you have a fully usable Type-7 sitting without Cargo in the Dock.

Very useful Tool to determine cost vs. configuration :

My Type 7 is around 30mil to buy and fully kit out, comes out at 1.4mil to insure and my cargo is 1.5mil so probably best to have 30-33mil

Clipper is another beast altogether and i don't recommend stepping into it until you have 40 - 45 million CR.

Repair costs are being change and lowered in 1.2 so scratching it may not be an issue anymore. Fuel costs are about the same between the two.

And Use the nifty shipyard tool it saves loads of guessing.

Oh and between the T7 and the Clipper I'd go for the clipper. WAY more fun to fly and you dont have to run from an NPC interdiction and once you upgrade to A6 thrusters, it's the fastest ship in the game.

The clipper may be a nicer ride, but an extra 15 mil in the asp will drive me a bit spare. Based on what people are saying here, about 25 is what I want to aim for- does that sound about right?

25M is fairly safe, depending on how much you want to spend upgrading the T7 when you first get it.

I bought mine when I was at ~23M, spent somewhere between ~1-2M to upgrade to whatever D modules the station had in stock (so not all of them), FSD to a C, and then had ~4M left over for cargo + insurance.

Been flying it in pretty much that state ever since other than a more heat efficient powerplant (A-rating of a lower class # actually; had no need of all that extra power), since there was no point to upgrading the jump range any further for the route I was running because even at max jump range there's still no way to do it in a single jump.

Yeah, 25m should be good. I've got 4x G pulse turrets, 4x point defences, an A FSD, A power dist. and all C grade kit for the rest with 212 cargo and a docking computer, cost about 24 mil + 900k-odd insurance. Does the job.

3 things to be ready for - 1st, docking is tight. Like, pigeon-in-a-letterbox tight. Get a docking computer. 2nd, it overheats like crazy when jumping before you upgrade the power plant, jumps at around 120% heat (jumps at 100-103 with C plant), doesn't seem to take any damage though. 3rd...this says it all:-

So. Damned. Slow. Nice cockpit though, good earner. I'll be in mine for a bit until Wings is out and they tell us the FdL cost

Docking isn't *that* bad. Just remember your cockpit is near the bottom of the ship though, so to avoid scraping the roof on the mail slot.
