How many expansions and what are they...

Its probably been said somewhere but i dont know about it. i wanna know before i buy the lifetime expansion pass, because however unlikely it is, i might not care for some of the other expansions, so it *could* be cheaper to buy the ones i want individually.

Well... im gonna buy the lifetime expansion anyway but i would still like to know ^_^

And another thing i want to know is how far apart are these expansions, i saw someone write "they have a 10 year plan". in 10 years i will be 27 years old... i dont wanna wait that long

Er..?

You can play the game now. You don't have to wait for all the expansions. It's just "stuff packs" to keep the development funded.

What an odd thing to say- development takes time, so you can't expect all updates to arrive quickly. FD need to keep the investment going in, so having a 10 year plan is to show commitment to the game development, with a view that existing or new customers buy these expansions to help with the upkeep of the back end servers (and shareholders probably!).

Regarding the OP, paying for all expansions up front might be a saving, who knows as we haven't been given any idea how many there may be, or indeed what they'll be!

The other one that has been mentioned is a FPS mode where you can walk around your ship and the stations (and presumably the planets). They've about boarding other ships and spacewalks to repair stuff on the outside of your ship.

Given that Horizons is going to be released about a year after the original game I'm expecting about one paid expansion a year. Of course there will be updates between.

Yea i suppose, even if i just have planetary landing and walking around my ship, within a year or maybe a little more i will be 100% satisfied

This. At least two - this one and the "first person" one. They've both been talked about since the early days. If the game continues to be successful, and is still attracting interest in a couple of years maybe more. Multi-player ship crews might happen eventually, but I don't think that was ever scoped as a definite expansion.

A major "season" once a year just in time for the Christmas shopping season and holidays is an obvious marketing approach, and no doubt has been in their plans since the beginning.

I am happy with that but want some clarity

Patience. Just think you can watch ED evolve over many years and get excited every time a new update comes out. Sit there with your children in 10 years time and say. "I remember the days when you could not even land on a planet"

In the early plan, there was a bunch of stuff about ship crews (autonomous robots and then later other-player based crews. "Man the turret, Luke". That's yet to materialise.

There's the aforementioned ship-ship FPS module (walk around your ship, other ppl's ships, space stations, repair your hull personally, board and commandeer other vessels etc.. etc..).

Some form of executive control capital ships, which to me sounded like having a pet battlecruiser you could order around, but not fly directly.

Thargoids (alien bad guys) rumoured to turn up "at some point".

That's stuff that was bandied around. What turns up, if and when, can be anywhere on the spectrum.

Planetary landings itself comes in two seasons anyway by accounts, as it's airless planets first, and then atmospheres next.

Given that the lifetime pass is 130 quid, and it looks like it's going to be about 30 quid per-expansion (assuming the base game is purchased), that's equivalent to buying about 4 seasons (both planetary landing sections and whatever the 3rd & 4th is, could be the FPS by then, but don't quote me on it). So, yeah, probably some small amount of clarity on what the other two may be could be useful, although there's plenty of ideas to fit in there, but what/where/when/how who knows.

Hopefully the bobbleheads come back, and apply to more ships than just the sidey in the middle of all this too.

This is a bit like someone back in 1997 would say:

"Hey, this GTA 1 is pretty neat, but I rather wait for the "full experience" in GTA5. WHAT! I'm gonna have to wait almost 20 YEARS!!!"

..

As long as ED is successful there will be expansions and updates for the game. It's not like they will ever run out of things to add to this. The scope is almost infinite and five years from now they will probably still have a 10 year plan since they can come up with even more things to add later.

The game will never be "complete"...and I mean that in the good way. Enjoy the ride instead! :)

"How far apart?"

One new season around Christmas every year seems like the plan, with other updates spread out during the year.

He's not saying that at all. By any stretch, what Frontier are asking is a lot of money for a pretty vague promise of 'future expansions'. As I see it, we're pretty much guaranteed this Horizons expansion, plus whatever the FPS expansion will be, but that's only two expansions for the price of more than three.

I'd love to buy the Lifetime Pass, but until I see more detail about what it will get me I've decided to hold back for now, until more information about the future of this game is laid out.
