How many games sold...do logs tell the story?

Not to mention E:D is gonna be on PS4 sooner or later, Linux, other game selling platforms, Planetary landings and first person shooter mechanics are going to be their own major release's

Continuing Tinman's line of reasoning, I suspect that to build on a franchise (ie, subsequent releases' sales exceed that of the original) the market requires releases to be presented as whole new games, rather than iterative updates to an existing game. So expect Elite:Deadly at some point.
 The success of a game isn't derived from its title, but from the game itself. The aforementioned games' success is due to their approachability by a general audience.

It depends if when there is a clear dave or a wipe it assigns a new id to the commander or it's an accout id

No, but The Witcher 3 isn't The Witcher 1.

GTA V isn't GTA 1.

WoW today isn't WoW 1.0.

ED three years from now isn't ED 1.0.

Those projections also talk about "units". I suspect a expansion sale counts as a "unit".

I am with Lobstris - bull level predictions for 2017 for example feels a bit hyperbole. However I agree - units here are meant expansions too. So wile I don't expect 30M copies sold, I expect healthy amount of core copies plus expansions sold, let's say around 10M ballpark.

So, where are the debug logs exactly and how can one see his own id without asking somebody else to talk to you and watch debug logs?

I thought they made it clear we would not be seeing Elite 'V" or 'Deadly'? Its really not story based like the Witcher 3, GTA's are closer, but they tend to feature single city areas and so tend to favor the incremental approach. Plus, there will be more than two paid expansions, what those could be is anyone's guess coupled with an expanded cosmetics store they will hopefully be set. Actually quite surprising we haven't been further inundated with cosmetic things yet, although currently its quite limited in scope on what they can reasonably offer.

The logs are located in your Program Files (x86)\Elite Dangerous\Products\{PRODUCT NAME}\Logs folder. I'm not sure if enabling the trace logging is required for it, but I noticed it will spit out your ID every once in a while though I'm not sure what triggers the event (I only had a few of these ServerAdminRegister messages in months-worth of logs). You can search for the following entry using a text editor -- I like Notepad++ because it can search every file in the entire log directory:

Code:
ServerAdminRegister::Message: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><commsGroup><user><id>

The XML value right after the <id> tag is the number you're seeking. Happy hunting! Other than this, I've found no other reference than in friends' chat logs.

Well, congrats FD. :)

Now about all those "future" features in the DDF Vs. the unasked for ones like PowerPlay & CQC....any chance we can get some ofthem now, or are we concentrating on the PS4 release of ED?

Thanks, but i found the weird thing - in half of results the id is 168901, but another half results have it at 394322. I wonder which one is a true one and what's the other one. Any ideas?

Not really as this is all guesswork based on my installation. The best bet will probably be to chat with someone and have them review their log if you really want to find out.
