How many have made it this far?

I would like for there to be some kind of giant wall with the names of crazy explorers who've made it a decent ways out into the milky way.

I made it 13,000 LY before I hit the Wall of Crashes and had to turn back.

Brave explorer Antichthon, may your name be forever remembered amongst those who were brave enough or crazy enough to throw off the shackles of Imperial, Federation, and Alliance rule and sought to make their own way through the neigh endless stars of the Milky Way. I salute you, friend and explorer. May you always have enough jerky for the trip and enough fuel for the jump.

What is the wall of crashes?
Are you telling me that the game crashes after some distance? so... the freedom in this game is restricted?

It might depend on your computer. It might just be certain parts of the galaxy. All I know is the guy who went to the center of the galaxy had serious performance issues at about 13,000 ly, while I just crashed when I got that far. Every ten tries or so I could get back into the game to jump again, only to crash again. I'd hoped it was just a few star systems, but it wasn't. Tried it on both my laptop and desktop, to no avail. After about 6-7 jumps, I turned back. Took me like, a hundred or so restarts to get past the crashes, but I made it out. At the moment, yeah, I'd say exploration is limited. But it takes several days of constant play to get that far away, so you don't hear about it much. Hopefully they'll fix it in the future.

Just beware, if you go too far out, you might never make it back with the data.

The game was performing noticeably worse for me when I got about 1000LY out, seemed to be connecting to server, scans were taking longer and longer, and I was occasionally bumped back to the menu on hyperspace jumps, took that as a warning to turn back and sell the data.
Performs perfectly nearer populated space.

Reminds me of one of Alan Moore's classic Tharg's Future Shocks in 200 AD - an intrepid crew of explorers finally make it to the edge of the universe, only to encounter a giant brick wall. Over the ensuing months they map enough of it to make out the scrawled legend "Kilroy was here!"

Final frames pan out revealing a fractal universe scenario, the wall is just an ordinary wall in a larger scale copy of the same universe...

Just been 500ly out and had the same kinda thing, jumping from one scanned system to the next one and crashed to menu. Got back into the game, it's returned me to the system I jumped from and completely forgot about the 45 systems objects I scanned there. Scanned a couple more systems after that, crashed to menu again, so I decided to head back. I made it back, sold the Carto data, and will now stick closer to the known systems until I see signs that whatever is causing this issue has been fixed.
