Powerplay How many merits do I need?

If I wanted to unlock a Poweplay weapon I understand that I need to be pledged for four or more weeks and have 750 or more merits.
Does this mean that if I were pledged for three weeks and in that third week I made 750 merits; then at the tick on Thursday will the weapon be available? Or as the merits halve do I have to have 1,500 merits in week 3?

No, 750 at the fourth week tick will unlock your shiny. But if you don't make all your purchases within 7 days, you'll need to top up to 750 again.

Are you saying that when the game shows you pledged for 4 weeks the merits need to be 750 or higher? ie in my original question If I made a total of 1,500 merits only in week 3 this is the minimum required to unlock for week 4?

So, 750 merits is the number you need to have before week 4 ticks in, not because the amount of merits you have determines your access, but your rating during week 4 determines your access.

You need to be Rating 3 during the 4th week you've been pledged. So that means you need to earn 750 merits in your 3rd week before the cycle tick (Thursday 0700 GMT). When the tick comes in, you'll be Rating 3 and you've been pledged for 4 weeks.

As I understand it, yes, you can be pledged and do nothing for the first 2 weeks, and within week 3 (server tick determines new week) make at least 750 merits, so that when week 4 starts, you'll be at the appropriate rank.

I also am assuming you must be pledged for a total of 28 days (4 full weeks) no matter the server tick week... but I may be assuming too much.
