Horizons How many missions to get to Duke?

I have been doing faction missions for the empire and it seems to give me 1% per completed mission. Does that mean to qualify for a cutter when I am at 50% squire, I have to do 750 missions?

Nope more like 1500 ... I am at Marquis and it takes around 3 missions per 1%, I have only being doing low end hauling missions, going to try a "Free the captive" and some high stakes
missions tonight to see if it gains % faster...o7

Holy mother of god, I just completely left the idea to buy a Cutter. I got money, but I ain´t got 3 years real time to do missions :D

For charity missions it was
Squire = 35
Knight = 54
Lord = 62
Baron = 101
Viscount = 130
Count = 151
Earl = 172
Marquis = 199
Duke = 266
It didn't seem to matter if charity or delivery or smuggling missions, as they all seemed to be on par. I did empire ranking just charity only. Then did Federation with a mixture and it seemed about the same. Charity missions are just quicker per hour than doing delivery etc type missions. This was just before the last update (1.4) and applies if you do only Empire faction missions. If you do any independent missions it will count against you. If you abandon or fail any missions it will count heavily against you (take longer to rank up). I got all my ranks before the latest updates so not 100% sure if those figures still apply in 1.5/2.0, but hopefully will give you a ball park idea of how many missions needed per rank.

The bugged missions are not helping, timing out early or being impossible to complete makes it even harder. In some ways, the Charity missions look like being the least trouble at the moment.

Unfortunately charity missions have been severely nerfed as well - so they are no longer a viable alternative either. Looks like there is no way I am getting that cutter, even though I have more than enough money to buy one.

yeah after doing missions for an hour and watching that bar only go up 3 % i put the game off for now, need 2 ranks for cutter and dont have a spare 60 hours

Another Grind requirement.. I don't play much anymore anyways. Done it all already and nothing really changes.

Yea I'm stuck in the same position...

Oh rank grinding how I despise you... yet respect your necessity...

I've been doing delivery missions, cargo hauling and paying charity donations, and have found the ranking (I'm only at Master level in Empire) has gone up in steps of 1%, 2% or even 4% at times, with no logic as to which level of mission gives what increase. I paid about 5000 Cr in charity and the rank rose suddenly by 4% once !

It's a lot better than the 1% increases I had been seeing, but it's still a long way for me to get to use the cheap Clipper paint jobs I bought for the Black Friday sale !

Where do you even grind Imp Charity now? Aymmifa and Liabeze aren't showing any charity missions for me anymore, and I'm seeing maybe one or two an hour in Fehu doing long-distance smuggling runs...

I just made Duke from Earl, since Tue., by running delivery missions only. But, I was more like Earl 95% already, as it took me only an hour to get to Marquis. So, when I say %, it is % from Marquis to Duke.

#1. Take the Shadow Delivery missions. The more illegal the cargo, the better. I have seen one Shadow Delivery mission bumping at least 2% (say 55% to 58%, with just one 43Lys Shadow Delivery mission carrying Battle Weapons). With a Python, that's only 3 jumps. Since you are doing delivery, make sure you have at least 100T cargo hold, preferably 120T or more. And make sure you are armed to the teeth. They will interdict you. They just know you are carrying illegal goods. And watch the local chat box... It says... Suspect in sight.... RUN! The cops will even follow you to station and scan you immediately, as soon as you drop to station.

#2. Grab all the "skull & arrow" missions. Each could be 0.5% to 1%. And preferably, those ones going to surface stations.

#3. Always prefer surface delivery missions. And pick those requiring Elite status, if you have it, and pay a lot, like 900k, 1.1M etc., and with tight delivery schedule, like you have 15 minutes to do it.

#4. Bring an advance surface scanner. And before you take the surface delivery mission, buy the exploration data if available, then check the system map before you accept the mission. Switch to the locale tab in system map to see if the target surface station is listed on the left in the list sorted by distance from nav beacon. If yes, click on it and the gfx will scoll to the station. Plot it. If not, check how far the farthest known planet is to nav beacon. If the farthest is like 2000 Ls away, roll the dice and go. If no data available at all, don't take the mission.

You don't wanna get into the situation that you fire up the scanner and get 39 newly discovered astronomical objects and they are 34,000 Ls away from the nav, on the opposite sides. It could take 2 hours to scan.... Trust me, I did, and found the target station on the last unexplored body..... with 2 minutes to spare. Grrrr....

Far And Beyond missions are good too. But they are far..... and beyond 3000 Ls.

Oh, and take only the missions from minor factions affiliated with the Empire, of course.

Charity missions still show up, but very rarely now. I had one Charity mission to bring Progenitor Cells. Bumped me 1%. But, that's the only one that bumped up the %. Donations.... Not very useful, but couldn't hurt.

You might think this Shadow Delivery is the new Charity Mission... Hardly.... They don't show up very often either, but not as rare as Charity. It's still a lot of hard work.

I don't know nothing about combat mission for ranking up, as I don't like stinking up my rep everywhere impeding my trade. I can trade anywhere and they are never unfriendly. You can turn the stations on my trade route anyway you want, I will still be Allied. And for the NPCs who don't notice the Combat Elite decal on my ship, eat my Elite Laser.

And beware of those Rapid somthing missions.... You know, those with ". . . . .", in the icon. That's a 5 mission "bundle." And they only tell you the next destionation when you deliver one. Get three on your plate simultaneously, and you will be running all over the galaxy like a headless chicken.
