How many people are running ED on a Mac?

What kind of Mac are you running ED on?

Runs just great on my crapbook air, although carting a joystick around makes it a little clunky :). If only the silly thing had upgradeable RAM, I've just been given 16GB's of sexy blue SODIMMS, and nowhere else to put them but in my crappy Atom NAS :(

Anyone running on a 2013 iMac? Just wondering about performance as that's what I have! Got to get bootcamp sorted in time for the beta.

Technically not running it yet as I am not in Alpha. Still trying to persuade myself to install a Windows partition in order to partake in beta. Seeing as I would have to stump up £85 (?) on a Windows OS I don't want for any other purpose and my primary OS is… FREE… I have an ideologically problem with that as well as a stability concern.

I am not in the Alpha, and also don't have Windows/Bootcamp installed on any of my macs, but i am in the beta and have an upper mid-range Windows laptop that should at least be good enough to get through the beta (hopefully). My long term plan is to exclusively use Mac once the native client is released.

I have a Mac Mini, which isn't in the poll, so i marked Macbook, as i have a Macbook Air, but it's too old to actually run it, even when it gets optimised and Mac native.

I am not sure how well the Mac Mini will actually do, but i have the current i7 2.6 GHz model with HD4000 Gfx. I will be upgrading the RAM to 16 Gig by the time Mac native is out.

It may just about handle the game in 1080p with low-ish setting on a screen (once optimised), but i doubt it will smoothly handle Oculus Rift, so i'll be hoping that the Mac Mini gets a decent Gfx upgrade in the next refresh, which is due fairly soon. Maybe HD5200 will be enough for OR, so hopefully at least that. If there is a refreshed Mac Mini that can play ED smoothly with Oculus Rift, then i plan on buying one to be specifically dedicated to playing ED (and that can be bagged up with the HOTAS and OR and moved place to place for some LAN games once in a while).

I'd love a new "trash can" Mac Pro, but there's no way i could afford it.

Try eBay for your Windoze OS. I got Windows 7pro from an eBay trading company called Spartan for £45 delivered.

As i understand it a Hackinstosh is a non Apple computer made to run OS X. The fact that you have to revert to Windows to run ED just adds to my amusement.

Runs Very Well

Hi Have a Mac Pro Laptop. Its about 4 years old and It runs very very well!! No Lag.
It runs Windows 7 on a partition.

Impressed.

Using a Hacintosh to run ED? Maybe I misunderstand, but how is that Mac related?

Same thing.

All you need to build a mac is a compatible (UEFI) motherboard and a copy of the OS. That's it. A mac IS just a PC with a locked down BIOS and some of the connectors swapped for different shaped ones.

So none of us are running the Alpha on a Mac, is that what you're saying?

If what makes a Hackintosh a Mac is OSX, and I can't see what else it could be, then no Hackintosh is running the Alpha and never will.

imac (2013)

I have just boot camped my luxurious 2013 super slim iMac with Windows 8.1. Anyone who needs advice feel free to ask.
