how many people have made elite explorer?

how long did it take?
I'm hoping to earn elite from this trip ... so far over 3000 light years from sol.

Originally you needed around 70 or 80 million in exploration earnings to hit Elite. The tiers got doubled with the recent patch that increased exploration earnings so now you need something in the region of 150,000,000

Personally I think I should break the 16,000,000 barrier and hit Ranger rank when I get back from my current trip :)

yeash. That's going to take me awhile :)

How far out did you go on your current trip?
I'm debatingwhether I should turn back-- I'm over 3000 LYs out... 4 earth like planets... thinking maybe time to visit the core.
But I'm assuming there's tons more new discoveries out here.

I'm taking my first long trip. It takes a really long time.

Started it well before 1.2. Now I'm very excited to return and see the results. The vulture looks so awesome. But I haven't even reached the core yet... still about 2000 light years to go. So I'll try to hit Sagittarius A before coming back. But man.. that's a whole 20,000 L years back or something. Man. Long way to go.

From Elite Wiki - current rank requirements

Pathfinder - around 6m
Ranger - around 18m (got the wrong figure in above post)
Pioneer - around 60m
Elite - around 158m

I don't tend to go that far out - around 500 - 700 LY - but once I find a region of undiscovered systems I plot a course parallel to the edge of inhabited space

My first long trip, some 60k ly (to sag a* etc) made me 69 million. Out on another expedition at the moment...10k ly out from Sol and won't return until I'm sure I have enough for Elite rank. I guess another 3 weeks or so to go :)

like I said, it's going to take awhile.. glad I got a 'conda :)

Are these the post 1.2.03 numbers? I made Ranger right after 1.1 came out, with 15m.

asp is really good. it has the longest jump range of any ship except the anaconda.
I just picked up a conda, and it's great... you can easily get 30+ light years range per jump, the only problem is, obviously, it's cost. I cringe every time I take it out.

A realistic estimate is that in a three hour session, based on my three hours of game play per night, I can travel a linear 1,000ly, visiting 50-60 system. Doing a mix of economy and fastest jump plots in 200 to 300lys blocks with a look at all the systems around me 5 or 10 times.

In those system, I will do a mix of OCD and jump/honk/cherry pick/jump scans.

Start in early February and I'm 10ks out from Sol.

You can cut it down to 1000 linear lys in an hour if you just scan the main star and go, but that will speed up distance travelled, rather than credits earned which is how you gain ratings.

There should be a mechanism to reward time and/or distance explored as that is the real effort in exploring. For now, it's the bodies you scanned.

As all will agree, there is no short cut to Elite. It is either kill lots of ships, trade lots of commodities or scan lots of bodies. It what you want to get out of it. For me, seeing a crafted, random, diverse milky way.

One thing I have noticed, lots and lots of the these random systems are very much alike. Had a run, over 40 lys of 5 systems all with a Y class Brown dwarf and 8 Icy bodies in a line. You can either get bored and criticise the stella forge or load up the galaxy map and change your route. I changed my route.

It isn't how far you go, it's how much you earn.

I'm on my way back from my first successful trip to Sag A* (7k ly to go) and enjoyed the trip for its own sake. An Asp was very much up to the job.

You'll also find patches with lots of neutron stars!

I'm heading back from the spinwards nebulae at the moment (NGC 281 etc) - still about 5k out from the frontier. It's been a long trip, in a big loop starting from Betelgeuse then heading out as far as I could go along the galactic rim, then back in around the vector of the Heart Nebula. When I left I was at Ranger level and I'm expecting to easily crack Pioneer this trip, but probably not quite Elite.

I only know one commander who has made Elite level so far - Zulu Romeo, who was the first to reach Sagittarius A*.

I'm an Elite explorer - made it at around 81 million credits. Most of my exploration sales were pre-patch, but the last few millions were post-patch. I don't think the requirements have increased.

Elite explorer@ 80 million credits before exploration rebalance, ended up with 120 million credit profits after 3 days of selling data.

Pity that it may be money orientated. I think should be based on the number of systems you sell data on. Or should be; to qualify for the ELITE explorer status. :(

CURRENT RANK - RANGER

I agree, how many planets or distance traveled and some money. add them all together ;)

2,000 LY out from Empire space....going to the edge to look over. Hope to get al least 1,000 systems scanned. Not sure of that will be enough for Elite.

Done a 60,000 Ly round trip to the far left of the galaxy and scanned nearly everything. Took about 7 weeks in total. Made 36mill in credits.

That's before I found how to search for Neutron stars. Also come home early due to damage.

Having a break until the weekend and going out to Sag A and beyond. Not coming home again for a couple of months at least.
