How many players will actually play together?

I just hope the actions of players in other instances still feed into the in-game economy and event system, so that your actions still mean something.

This is exactly what they have planned. In one of the FDev videos on You Tube David Braben talks extensively about how different instances and even individual player missions will have an aggregate effect on the game world.
So the most I'll be able to play with at a time is 31 other people? :/ my dreams of galactic conquest are dwindling

Sorry about that. But you have now discerned that Elite is not a game of galactic conquest. You won't be able own stations or planets, or blow up other players stations. There will be no slide show mega fleet battles. If you want a game like that you will have to find it elsewhere. I'd like to see such a game as well, if they could eliminate the ridiculous lag I remember experiencing in large scale EvE battles. Something more like EvE but with the huge play area and scale of Elite :)

As I understand it:
- You're at Chango station with (potentially) up to 31 other players.
- There may be another Chango station with another (up to) 32 players.

There's no way for you to see/interact with the players in the other Chango station, that wouldn't make any sense to anyone.

When you leave Chango station, you might choose to enter 'i Bootis' system. In that system are "up to" 31 other players who may have come from your chango, the other chango, or somewhere entirely different.

It's entirely possible that the 32 players will increase or decrease, but I'd imagine it will end up around that number.

So what if you want to track another player that has just escaped into another system? You find out he jumped to ibootis. You go there but he's not in your ibootis, but in another. That would suck....because "I WILL FIND YOU!" :)

i dont see why a space station couldnt dock 100 ships at a time.. but i understand its asking alot. and who knows maybe there whole system will work so flawlessly we wont even able to tell the difference

Hopefully the network code will be smart enough that it will knows there has been a battle between two players, that when player A decide to strategically retreat to a different system, if player B decide they aren't done and follow them to that system (it should be possible in the future to track which system the player is going to), the networking code will place both players in the same instance in that system.

so what if you're hunting this person for revenge or just because you almost had them and they bolted. either way, what if they person add you to their block list, wont this cancel any chance of you then running into said player?

If they block you, you will never meet them again. Its like old school trainers you got on Amiga. Remove the bad guys please.

I would say we all play together, everybody who owns the game, but only 32 can be visible at any one time.

Maybe excluding players who you ping too high to, and those who just go around blocking everyone, solo players, and private players.

It does not block them completely, but puts them at the bottom of the list of players to join when an instance/island is created. If it's just the 2 of you in the entire system, escape seems unlikely.

if thats the case, i dont think there should be a "block list" if there are certain people you dont want to play with, then play private or solo.

I been saying that since I heard the ridiculous idea first mentioned.

I also dont believe you should be able to switch between Solo, private and MP as you fancy either.

Unless they have a bounty, in which case all their blockings have no effect. If you are wanted then you are fair game to all.
