How many ships?

I've often seen it on the system news board in starports but still for the life of me can't work out what purpose the "number of ships to pass through in the last 24 hours" serves, it gives very little information other than the number of every different type of ship.
It would be much better to have like an arrival/departure board that is constantly updating or something just for Commanders.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Commander database maybe with public details you could access from your ships computer.
Just some random thoughts :)

It gives you some indication of whether the place is popular as a trading hub, war zone, RES camping ground, or if you've found a nice secret little place and shouldn't tell anyone about it.

Additionally, when there are several thousand ships that go through a station in a 24 hour period - which is quite common during trading and combat community goals - can you imagine how enormous your suggested kind of arrival/departure board would be?!

Yes I guess it would be pretty large, maybe a visitors log then where you can search a name see if they have been through there recently, thinking for assassin missions either NPC based or PC

I found an amazing pure Independent Anarchy with just one outpost and a Nav Beacon that all the high bounty scum of the galaxy just seem to flock to every time i drop in. And only 12 Cmdr's had been there in 24 hours. I like places like that very much.
