How many waves is considered good in Incursion

I was wondering how far the veterans get on the combat scenario Incursion. I've managed to make it to the wave where you have 9 fighters coming after you, but can't kill a single one before going poof. I lost count of which wave that one actually is.

Just started playing recently and I'm really impressed so far. I would like to see better damage models, however. I hate that the enemy ships turn to dust after being destroyed. Where's the debris and burnt out hulks of ships?

IIRC, you can't expect much of a debris from small combat ships. But larger ones, as freighters and heavy combat ships should produce debris and burned out hulks in the final version of the game.

All of them! Kidding. I don't remember 9 fighters at once, though. It's been a while - was it really that many?

I've made it to the last wave (with difficulty) and then right on the verge of blowing the Anaconda I stupidly blew myself up by overheating the rail gun. So close! Initially I actually thought I'd never get that far - stick with it and you'll find it's feasible to complete all waves (though having said that I'm yet to try it again at this point).

cobras and sidewinders leave debris, larger ships leave hulls with holes :)

as for incursion, where do you see 9 ships at same time there!?!???

1 - FF
2 - Sidie
3 - 2xFF
4 - Sidie
5 - Cobra
6 - FF
7 - Sidie + 2xFF
8 - 4xFF
9 - 3xSidie + FF
10 - Anaconda

i can easily get to wave 9 and that's it, i'm killed almost instantly, but i know that for good pilots 9th wave is easy, anyway i would like to see other pilot's results as well, so what's your best wave and if you finish all 10 then what's your time in minutes, under 10 minutes is impressive and doable, i know that :)

I'm really struggling with this one - can't get beyond wave 4. I think my problem is evasion.

One top tip I came across this morning here is to use the rail gun as the primary weapon. At close range it can take out an FF in one hit, and it certainly helps sharpen those aiming skills.

yes, i always set rail gun as a primary weapon and laser as secondary when the incursion starts, also always use vertical thrust when head to head.

:)

It must have been somewhere around wave 9 as I recall taking out the 4 fighters. Perhaps I somehow had two groups jump in on me at once? There were absolutely nine of them. It took less than a second for them to burn me to cinders. Or perhaps I got the 9 smaller craft instead of the Anaconda?

I think for the first waves the trick is targeting. it needs to be fast and accurate. Got to wave 9 a couple of times now and each time it was because I was tracking the larger bogeys as soon as they jumped in (they always flash into your field of view) and got in 3 or 4 hits on them with the railgun before they start hitting back. For the groups of smaller, slower foes I run, turn and pick them off.

I do find tracking and hitting moving targets with keyboard+mouse to be a challenge.

Take out Sidies first and FF only after all Sidie are destroyed. Sidies will hit your harder than FF.

I've managed to glimpse wave 9 a couple of times now so I must be getting a bit better. I think my aim is improving faster than my evasion when head to head, but getting in close and putting an extra pip to engines seems safer than running away to charge the shields and jousting.
