How Might Hotels Work

I would love to get some realistic and detailed ideas of you hotels could work in PC. What are your thoughts?

Here's my idea of how hotels would work in much detail.

The concept:
Hotels would be included in an expansion pack. They will exist within the theme park itself. All guest will have a "fatigue" bar. If their fatigue bar is low and they are tired, guest will have 3 options:
a) leave the park
b) increase their fatigue slightly by sitting down
c) increase fatigue greatly by visiting the in-park hotel.
Regardless of whether it's night or day, exhausted guest can enter the hotel for a period amount of time to fully increase their stamina/fatigue.

The creativity:
I've already seen some amazing hotel creations on YouTube and it's very possible to create your own, including rooms, hallways, bathrooms, etc.. However, keep in mind this isn't hotel tycoon and I can quickly see creating each room as a tedious and annoying task for typical players like me. My idea here is we will be given multiple non-decorated buildings to act as hotels to select from. These non-decorated buildings will come in various sizes each with a different maximum number of guest. In order to make the hotel unique it's our job is decorate the exterior, since its typically all we see. This gives players the ability make the hotel unique. Think about it, you can cover the exterior of the default hotel with new walls, roofs, windows, and other designs. The level of detail you include will also affect the excitement and value of the hotel, similar to how flat rides work. Imagine something like the this YouTube clip as the hotel exterior:

The management:
Again, this isn't hotel tycoon so management should be rather straight forward. It will cost us a certain amount per month to keep running. Guest have a flat rate per stay that we players control. The happier the guest, the better your park is, and the more you decorate your hotel, the more they'd be willing to spend in a hotel.

Of course my ideas above could be expanded upon, but for now its very straight forward, simple approach, and would only take the minimal effort for Frontier to implement. I think something like this would be a great addition.

Q&A:
Why can't we design the interior?
3 main reasons I can think of:
1) How would you modify the first or second floor of a 10 story hotel? You would have to delete the entire floor to modify the floor underneath and so on. When you add a roofs and walls this only adds on to the problem.
1) It would take a major effort for PC to support this. Addition pieces would be needed including: stairs, working elevators, beds, hotel decorations, etc... (you can imagine this would be a long list)
3) This isnt Hotel tycoon. It's a themepark sim and focus should be on building a themepark.

Why can't guest visit the hotel only at the night time?
For starters, the day/night cycle is not implemented in a way to support this. In order for this to work nights would have to last much longer and fatigue must be timed so that guest are exhausted at night and less tired during the day. Which would result in less guest walking around your park at night and much longer days. Obviously not a good idea for Frontier to adjust a major part of the game simply so guest only enter hotels at night.

Why can't hotels be placed outside the park?
Might just be a personal opinion here but I like seeing my entire park on my screen at once. An idea of having a separate land outside the park for hotels might sound neat but my concerns are: Will there be a loading screen between the two parks? How would guest travel to this hotel? Will guest in the hotel still count towards the amount of guest you have in the park? The moment you separate hotels from from your themepark is the when the game starts feeling like both themepark tycoon and hotel tycoon. In my opinion, you would feel less attached to your hotel and less aware of what's going on there if it's not on your screen.

What are your guys thoughts? How could hotels work?

I'd love there to be some way of making hotels. Even if its just like the toilets where its just a black doorway that peeps disappear into. It would be nice to have something that is functional in the park to add extra realism. In RCT3 i always spend hours building car parks, roads and hotels so to have something built in to help this would be great. As much as this is a theme park builder, the exterior of the park and all the hotels and car parks and the driveway into the park is all a big part of the park as it adds to realism and makes the game more enjoyable. I'm all for something like this, whether detailed or just a simple feature.

I stopped reading after the word "fatigued" its going into too much detail, I remember someone mentioning car parks before, which is fine to have outside of a park, but then the idea of them getting into their car and watching them drive away is a bit silly, I also don't want to see them wake up the next morning, put on their work clothes and go off to work.

If hotels are to be included in game, keep it simple, a small entrance to the building, nothing else, I don't think it needs a whole management system.

As you said
keep in mind this isn't hotel tycoon
lets try to keep it that way.

Actually, come to think of it... you could use the existing bathroom entrance/exit (which aren't themed at all) as your hotel, or any other building you want guests to disappear into. Who says you can't have a grand hotel with amazing theming, and cheat a little by using a bathroom entrance? It actually makes a lot of sense from a simulation point of view also, since your hotel room has a bathroom, lowering your need to use it afterwards.

Might as well doctor it up with a pool, chaise lounge chairs, etc. Uh oh... I feel a project coming on!

I really like the hotel idea. But I think we should be able to see at least part of the interior. Maybe just the lobby and amenities if provided. I hope it will be an expansion pack if added in, considering it would require a lot of detail to create this and the base game should be polished before hotels are put in. It would be really cool if they could incorporate the modular building into this feature.

[down] I dont want hotels being a major concern

You can already make buildings, the extra need for guests to rest would annoy me. I don't want to worry about how "unique" my hotel is and I don't want over crowded hotels for guests to "rest" in... I want to have fun enjoying rides. Plopping down a prebuilt hotel would be fine, but requiring a large enough building to accommodate a sufficient number of guests seems not only tedious, but it would also detract from my park as a large number of my guests would not be riding the rides.

How long would a guests need to be in the hotel? Would it be for the "night" or a few in game hours? Would it be like using a bench, or instant like using a bathroom? It doesn't seem logistically valuable for me to enjoy the game. It is simply a decoration, like any other building... I also don't want to worry that this would slow down my computer by overfilling the memory or wasting space in my park requiring more from the CPU.

I do however, have a suggestion for more realism based on a day to week system instead of months to years (link in my sig below). If PC followed a strict 24 hour system with parks closing at night and guests leaving until the next day, then maybe I would support the idea of a hotel. But as it stands, PC will not follow a 24 hour clock with parks closing, so the need of a hotel is not something I am concerned about.

If PC allows mods in the future, I am sure somebody will create a hotel, but I do not want to see them become a major requirement to keeping guests happy. I would rather more time be spent improving other features, like having different pathing tools for creating open indoor spaces like restaurants, etc. Just my 2 cents [cool]

Love this idea, thanks

I like the idea of resort management being the theme of an EXPANSION to the game, but I definitely don't want them to worry about it for the "core" game. I want them to focus on making new rides, implementing park management, improving the building and landscaping options, and optimizing all of it as much as possible before it goes on sale "for reals" at the end of the year.
