There have been some recent polls about that haven't adequately examined everyone's views on the loss of off-line play.

So, here is the question:

How much does the loss of offline play impact you?

I do not see how a game like Elite could possibly be enjoyed offline. Would you like to play Eve in single player? Sandbox, open world games and massive ones like Elite are a lot more interesting in Online. There'a a sense of competition, risk and surprise that you can't get in offline mode. Take for example Battlefield. Single player is nice, but multiplayer is where it shines because let's face it, you can't compare AI NPC to real players :)

For some people, there is indeed a sense of competition, but only because they want to feel that way. There is no true competition in this game as there is no end game, nor is there any direct comparison between players other than what is created in ones mind. The idea of playing in the same universe as other human beings holds no special or particular appeal to me, nor does it to many other players. We don't feel the competition that others do, which is why I feel the solo, and private group options are a stroke of genius.

I get where people who wanted the offline mode are coming from, because I felt the same way about the most recent Simcity title and EA's ridiculous stance. However, I am much more concerned that 'open play' FEELS like it is offline mode.

Not impacted at all, and have no idea what the fuss was about as I never intended to play off line, i'm not even going to play in solo mode. I want a universe populated with people.

There's ranking. Rank is useless in a vacuum. Its only value is in competition or to scare people away. In either case, it's a direct comparison between players.

I wasnt fussed by the scrapping of offline play but now I am.

It looks like exploits are being massively abused and so I won't feel happy playing open play etc. knowing that the galaxy has a lot of cheats and people starting in positions they simply haven't earned or deserve through fair play.

The tons of threads and rage posts about it to filter through on the forums affects me.

I have noticed - and in all of those posts there hasn't been adequate dispassionate analysis of what the scope of the issue really is. Does it suck for some people who wanted to play off-line? Yes! But I'm asking a bit of a cold question - how will that impact the community overall.

I chose I prefer online, but cannot connect for various reasons. One of those reasons is I just may not want to, and that option is no longer present. Over-all the impact on how I play is minimal, but more than zero, as even if the feature was still there I would want to play Open Play 99% of the time.

There are no ladder type rankings. It's only a direct comparison if it has any meaning to those people that it has meaning to. I suppose more directly, there will be those who feel their status equals their epeen size, but unlike many other games out there, rank has no practical advantage in game beyond "gee whiz" and honestly, I think that the only person one's rank mean anything to is the person who has it.

Not impacted at all. Never expected a 2014 game to have a fully functional offline mode anyway.

Serious? I haven't been able to play ED the last few days because of my connection . . . been playing Farcry 4 instead . . . offline. I can play every game in my steam library . . . offline . . .

I think the community as a whole was badly impacted by the decision, regardless of the rights and wrongs behind it.

I hope that Frontier take their time developing and following up on the possibilities thrown up by an online galaxy, there are some great and unique little moments that occur in online open that deserve to be teased out, explored and developed further.

Very fast, very stable internet connection. Impact? I won't be playing the game at all unless offline is released. Which means I'll likely never play it. Shame, been looking forward to a new Elite game for ages. Unfortunately this isn't the game I was looking for.
