Newcomer / Intro How much better are Class 2 weapons vs Class 1 weapons, really?

I'm genuinely curious... especially since there aren't any real numbers here to do a real comparison.

But for my new Viper, I'm looking at a Class 2 Pulse Lasers, vs Class 1 Burst Lasers. And from what I can tell, the DPS is the same, but the Class 1 Burst Laser weighs less.

Why bother with Class 2 weapons if the DPS is the same? (3 bars)

Burst lasers do more damage than same-sized pulses, but generate more heat.

Those 'dps' and other stats on the outfitting screen are useless at the moment. Class 2 weapons definitely have more punch than class 1's, difficult to say how much but I would estimate 30-50% more; that's just based on my personal experience and gut feeling.

Try fitting 2x class 1 pulses (fixed or gimballed your choice, my pref is gimballed), and 2x class 2 multi-cannons (must be gimballed) on your viper. Pulses for shields, both for hull. Ammo costs are minimal and you'll rip through anything with that.

Hmm, I was running Class 1 Multi's, and Class 2 pulse, but I think you're right, should switch to Class 2 projectiles.

Class 1 pulse will get through anyone's shields soon enough, and multis in the class 2 means that generally you can burn even a 'conda down quick enough that he doesn't have time to FS away. Plus power management is easier if your lasers are the small ones.

I also have a lot of trouble with the in-game statistics on "upgrades". Some of my components are class E and even up to class B looks like a downgrade for me as it weighs more, draws more power and does less dps.. either the stats are completely inaccurate or weapons get worse as the cost goes up :p

For weapons, the letter 'E' 'F' or whatever seems only to give a very rough guide to dps. The in game info for weapons is basically useless, you just have to try them for yourself and see.

For internal bay stuff, 'D' is always light for its size class, 'B' is always heavier, and obviously performance and cost rises from 'F' to 'A'.
