How much can you sell a Viper Mk IV for?

Hidy ho all,

I'm one of those whom the community gifted a Viper Mk IV to (Thanks again!), via that community goal. Now, I'm still re-learning to fly in this game, so I can make the trek to this new ship of mine.

My biggest worry, is idk if its just an empty hull, or if it comes with a basic loadout.

So, if this ship is nothing more then an empty hull, I don't have the funds to kit it out. Instead, I might want to sell it, and use those funds to get a hold of another ship (besides the starter sidewinder), and fit it out.

My biggest trouble is, idk how much I can sell it for. And what ships are available for that price.

Edit: So, does anyone know how much the Viper Mk IV sells for? And, does anyone know what ships can be bought for that price?

The ship is kitted out as normal, E-rated modules and a pair of small pulse lasers. You can see it here

The normal purchase price seems to be 437,930Cr with the basic loadout.

On selling ships its quite easy Value of ship - 10%. Use coriolis.io to calculate ship value.
If kitted out strip it down as far as possible first. Because of the known refund glitch.

Refund glitch: Upgraded internals can be sold for 100% when buying up or downgrades, But it will cost 10% of vlaue if its sold with the ship.
FD wasn't able to to fix the logic calculating the correct ship value on selling ships til today. Maybe in 2.1??

Regards,
Miklos

It will be kitted out with basic E grade equipment. The selling price will be ship value - 10% though you can scrimp a bit more if you sell as many as the components as you can separately first (though it will only be a couple of Ks for basic stock).

Dude sell that get a Cobra....for newbs like us there is no better vessel...load it full of hull modules and A rated shield and it is a armored little bug that can last almost all apha strikes long enough to boost away..Load it with 4 gimbled pulses and a repair module to fix the canopy and you can rez hunt for hours..with A rated thrusters you are uncatchable by anything.
You can stack enough Cargo modules as not to make it useless I think 40 tonish.
You can get a descent jump range on her too.

Thanks for the feedback all!

If I've done my math right, then I could sell that Viper for 394,137. Is that about right?

Also, thanks for that website link! Thats actually, a very useful site. I would be very interested in see what fittings people have thought of for their ships on that site.

From what I'm seeing, the cobra is actually more expensive then the viper. So if I sold it as is, I couldn't afford the cobra Mk IV. Its not a bad ship to save up for though, thanks Warmaster!

Edit: That's without taking off the modules and selling them separately. Just selling the ship off as is.

From what I'm seeing, the cobra is actually more expensive then the viper. So if I sold it as is, I couldn't afford the cobra Mk III. Its not a bad ship to save up for though, thanks Warmaster!

Fixed that for you ;)
Forget the Mk IV

A stock Cobra Mk III is 349,720cr. Both cheaper than the sale price you've quoted, and reckoned by many to be better than the more expensive Mk IV, which sacrifices raw speed (both in jump range and in regular space) for increased internal space.

Since the main point of the Mk III is how fast you can run away from things, that's a big problem.

And if you get over to LYR space for the discount you can get a couple of upgrades too

Thanks for the replies all. Did I do my math correctly btw?

I was using the above linked site, to mess around with various ship hulls. And I was actually seriously looking at the sidewinder belive it or not. Take that ship, and see about upgrading the internals.

My primary concern about the Cobra III, is the fact that it seems to be giant. Presenting a huge target to be shot at.

Not when you are boosting away at speed, its a pretty small profile and gets out of range real quick. However if you do want to fight it has enough hardpoints to enable it to cope with most NPC's

Yes, the profile is pretty small from behind, for anyone trying to get you as you run away, or from the front as you charge at them. As long as you don't get into scraps with wings, you shouldn't get attacked from above too much. Even then, it's not like you're in the dinner-plate monstrosity that is an Asp.

It isn't glitch. FD brought 10% loss when selling modules (not when selling ship but when changing modules etc) year ago but forums went to nuts and complained, raged and did usual stuff and frontier removed it fast. So no loss on selling modules isn't glitch.

If you think the Cobra MkIII is big, wait until you get into something like an Asp Explorer or a Python. They are a lot larger (and wait until you get into an Anaconda!).

Oh most certainly Cobra 3.....don't worry op it might be biggish but it can move like a sidey and nothing in game is faster so if you do bite more than you can chew, you can 3 pip the engines and boost, boost, boost.

Only thing that can come close to catch you is another mk3 cobra with 3 pips to engines which means he cant shoot for

The thing about the Cobra MkIII is that it is fast, fastest ship in the game in fact, and also quite nimble. If you really want to fly with a big bullseye painted on your power plant try the Asp. :)

One of my ultimate goals is to get into an anaconda. That is the ship I want to travel to one end of the galaxy with.

Though I think I'll fit it with a docking computer, to make it so docking and undocking isn't such a chore.

But as they say, one step at a time. I've tried trading before, when I first got the game. And I think I'm down to 3k credits as a result. It was boring enough to make me put the game down. So this time, I'm thinking I want to do something a little more exciting. Fighting seems like the way to go for excitement. Unless there are other ways to have fun besides that in this game?

The viper MKIV is a pretty decent combat ship. I used mine for power play interdicting until I could afford a vulture. If you have the cash for a rebuy, you might consider pulling the components out of your sidewinder and throwing them on the viper. If you can find a decent resource extraction site you can shoot pirates that the authorities are already shooting and pick up some easy credits.
