Since I never bother with grinding for Engineer materials, and generally take what I can get when doing the proverbial Engineer tour, I don't keep track of that sort of thing.

they mean cracked industrial firmware and those rare focused crystals.

Well I can change my report, just checks and it does seem I picked up some Cracked Industrial Firmware - and it must be good cos I didn't ditch it like other mats/data I have no idea why I have them. As for the Exquisite Focus Crystals, those I need (even have a post-it note on the monitor to remind me lol)
I think you mean exquisite.I collected 19 of those doing passengers and data delivery missions.CIF i just drop, got more than 60 and they clog the inventory.
Most of you guys probably already know, but there's a wonderful tool, EDEngineer, to track in real time and organise your mats/data. Among many other functions you can also set thresholds for individual stuff and the tool will inform you (audio or visual) when you reach or exceed it, so @M00ka you can ditch the post-it notes (I've had them too before).

I got 6 efc, 4 cif and 4 mef, the mef didn't last long - I deleted them yesterday morning after picking up some mcf and still being very much half sleep got them mixed up.
Currently I have 80/162 but I had a lot of CIF before this weekend. I also spent about 50 EFC on 3 new PDs and 2 new Thermal boosters. Also picked up 68 MEF from the mission board.
I'm very happy with the current drop rates. I did a couple hundred data missions to get all that, pretty much all I did this weekend.

Roll some G5 DDs. Reroll until your ships are blindingly fast (or you run out of pharmaceutical isolators).
I have 20 CIF and 19 EFC. I generally don't carry more than 20 of any given material or data. I've never needed more than that to get a perfectly acceptable result, and most times I've need 1 or 2 of any given item.
I don't feel the need to min/max everything I do. That's a crutch for a lack of ability.

Normally when you pick up some data you receive three units of the data per pickup. I've never really paid attention before but I've just noticed that if I receive a CIF pickup as a reward for a passenger mission, then I only receive a single unit per pickup.
Is that normal ? If it is then do you also only get a single unit of CIF per pickup for base scans (if you get any at all) ?

missions give the amount that is shown in the mission.
other means to get mats and data give 3 a piece.

Working as intended sir! Mission rewards tell you how many Mats you will be getting. If the figure is 2 then 2 is what you get not 6!

For mission rewards you get the number it states in the text, generally 1, 2 or 4.
When getting it through base scanning/crashed satellites it will be x3 units for the number acquired.
