How much damage is too much damage?

I'm 10K LY and I've had a few bad jumps, and got to close to a few things, and had a night where I had a bit too much wine with my exploring ( :D ) and am at 95% power plant/hull. Due to having 2 AfMUs nothing else is below 100&

How much further should I be good for barring odd jumps and no more drunken exploring? At what percentage should I turn back?

I wouldn't even be thinking about worrying at those percentages. I would, however, recommend reserving your AFMU for repairing only mission-critical modules. You don't want to use it up repairing your cargo hatch then not have it available for your FSD. (or maybe I'm reading your post too literally and you're already doing that...)

thanks! I'm not too worried about the cargo hatch or the lasers (my Asp still has fangs) at least till I get closer to the bubble :D

I did however decide to head back after seeing that we have a new Exploration CG, but There's lots of stuff to discover between here and there ;)

To be honest I've had Hull down to 25% and powerplant on about 23% before. Although I did turn around at about 30% powerplant.

Those AFMU's have a ton of ammo in my experience so I tended to keep everything else in top shape. Too many Neutrons though :p

Unless your canopy is severely compromised, held together by equal parts bubble gum and wishful thinking, there's no reason to turn back :)

Yep when I'm using goodwill and chewing gum to hold together a 'd canopy then agreed it's probably time to turn tail and come home.

I'm 35kly out and down to 60% hull and slowly making my way towards the bubble. Of course it will take me a little bit of time to get back but....

O-o-o-h-h is that another shiny thing...

:D

Remeber that your life support system does not replenish O2!!!!!! This means that if you turn LSS to repair it, you are consuming your O2 reservoir. Depending on LSS quality you have 5 to 15 minutes of O2. If you switch it off too many times to repair you'll be ejected when O2 finishes even if your ship has pristine canopy.

Alchool and jump: you can do it like me, I have binded the 0 throttle command to the numpad 0, difficult to miss even with trembling fingers.

I'm currently 62K LY out and at 97% hull.

Just don't take any risks while exploring. Do not operate your spacecraft under the influence of alcohol or while tired.

As others said: Bind zero throttle to a key and hit it multiple times when the countdown starts.

and ends, and during the jump and when you emerge from Hyperspace. Or is that just me?

(so glad I have a HOTAS now - the number of times I've suddenly remembered in hyperspace....)

Same here :) Being able to physically throttle down while in hyperspace is really nice.

I just hit the button in time with the countdown...

Never managed to do so.
I solved spamming the 0 throttle key from the beginning of the jump sequence til I see the star. But it would be nice to be able to throttle down in some other way...

If you hit it during countdown you are good.
In hyperspace there are sometimes a few seconds where user input is ignored. When you emerge, depending on your system and load, you may experience lag - in worst case then it is too late.

However, with the DBE, no big deal if you occasionally land in a Neutron star. Wait a few seconds, then jump away. Just don't do it too often.

Doh, I always thought that the countdown was the moment with user input ignored (because it resets also your free view to the square center of the cockpit) and always tried to punch the zero throttle during the jump. I've just tried to do during the countdown and it works.

/facepalm for me, and rep for you :)
