I wish there was something more useful to do in a SRV when exploring.

Now I just drive around for about 5 minutes when I land, then off to the next system or planet.

I voted I spend some time in the SRV because I bought Horizons just few days ago. I can see myself driving around on planets just for the fun of it, because I liked driving Mako in Mass Effect and SRV's are even more fun to drive.

I'm just getting back into Elite after taking a break pre Horizons. Currently flying back to the bubble to equip my Asp with the planetary landing module and a couple of SRV's. Then it's back out into the deep. I'll vote on the poll in a few weeks after I've had a chance to play with the srv

SRV I use mainly for "sight-seeing" on the various pretty planets and those with obviously grand vistas. And yet now and then I go driving just because I can. Oh, and obtaining stuff for better ammo and jumponium is in the menu occasionally, but that's usually just a side product of simply cruising around for the sake of cruising around.

I challenge myself to drive using turret view.. just tryin to master the 'sense' out of it.. :D
still looking for the best control bind though..

I used to just bomb round planets and try and find craters or ravines I could jump in the SRV but I've recently been scouting out in the Formidine Rift and the need for jumponium means I've actually started using the scanner in earnest. Once you work out how to use it it's a thing of subtle elegance. A complete swine to get used to but once there you can spot rare material sources from k's away.

I enjoy getting out in the SRV, driving around with drive assist off is so much fun. :)

Anyone wanting to play in their SRVs should think of entering a team in Hogan's Run, almost 600km of SRV madness.

I love bouncing around in my buggy. What I normally do is go on a few surface missions and pick up some materials for suped-up ammo on the way.

But I've not been down on any moons lately because I've had other stuff to do.

It's pretty much like driving a tank from the gunner's seat :D

I tried drive assist "on" once... it was horrible. So much easier to drive around without it.

Out exploring at the moment. I always end a session by landing and start the next one driving around a bit looking for materials. Always find more that I use. Getting quite a collection now. Hopefully they will be of use when I get back and crafting is a thing :)

Could not agree more. Never use drive assist myself.

Frequently but not 'all the time'.

I use it for missions when that is necessary and when I get back out of the bubble I'll explore a bit. Meanwhile though, it is fun just to land and have a drive around and see what I see for a bit, it makes a change.

I clicked option 2 "I use the SRV, but only for missions" but actually it is the other way around. I take surface missions to drive the SRV. I really like driving the SRV. And the wave scanner I find awesome. In the beginning I found it difficult to interpret but -much to my surprise- after some time I developed the skills to read it properly. Now I can find materials and POIs almost flawlessly. The team that designed the wave scanner deserves a big thank you. I wish the scanner in our ship had a similar feature (a wave scanning mode) when operating close to the surface. It would be much more fun to find POIs on a planet using an airborne wave scanner than the current blue circles mechanic.
