How much is solo VS multiplayer?

How close to a mmorpg is it, can I interact with hundreds, or thousands of other players?
Will my decisions affect other players too, to any extent?

What type of features does it have, other then being a space sim?
Is there a complex player run economy?

mining?
trading?
crafting of some sort with blueprints or ?

thanks.

hundreds, or thousands of other players? Sure, but they're all independent to your actions, aside from dogfighting.

Will my decisions affect other players too, to any extent? No, there is no system in place to support this, no points, etc. for doing things as a team, etc. vs. solo. This is a solo online game.

What type of features does it have, other then being a space sim? You get credits for completing missions, bounty contracts, exploring and mining. That's it.

Is there a complex player run economy? No.

mining? Solo effort/award only.
trading? Solo effort/award only.
crafting of some sort with blueprints or ? No.

You can interact with up to 32 of them at a time if they happen to be in the same system instance as you are. You can add people as friends and communicate with them. You can create private groups so that you will not run into other real players except those in your group. How your decisions affect them depends on what you choose to do. If you attack them, obviously you affect them. You can be a pirate, interdict them in mid-flight and attempt to destroy them or demand their cargo as ransom. At present there are no "team" functions to share missions or bounties, but those are coming relatively soon after initial release.

Can you affect the wider economy? Yes, to a point. However, the biggest ship only hauls 500 tons of cargo max and some stations in large systems demand millions of tons of various goods. A large number of us are testing how much we can affect politics and a station's economy in the Lugh system, that process is ongoing. We are improving the faction's influence but it remains to be seen what longer term effects that will have. The economy is not "complex" in that there are no chained economies depending on players hauling Good X to make Item Y more available. Hauling lots of Good X to a station merely lowers its demand and hence the price paid for that item.

Mining - yes. Inefficient, but yes. Asteroids and planetary rings can be mined with a laser. There are numerous minerals and metals of various rarities and value.
Trading - yes. You can trade goods with other players, not credits directly.
Crafting - none at all.

It's a MMO in the sense that everyone who plays exists in the same universe, and any changes to the universe affect all the same.
It's different to most MMOs because there is a "solo" mode, where you're still in the online universe but you won't ever encounter other players. Also just because it's so big - it's not designed to funnel players in to the same places the way MMOs usually are. Currently, it also lacks a lot of the usual social tools most MMOs have, but I expect some of those will be improved over time.

Your decisions can affect other players but only in a very indirect way for the most part - shifts in influence, trade prices and conflicts as the result of player activity, but not something you would easily notice. More directly of course if you choose to attack other players or whatever.

The economy is large with hundreds/thousands of stations, lots of commodities and major/minor factions with shifting influence. It isn't player run though - the players are individuals in a galaxy with trillions of people, so supply and demand is not completely dictated by players. They do play a part in it, but not a controlling one.

There is mining - you can kit your ship out with mining lasers and a refinery, seek out planetary rings or asteroid belts and mine for ore. At some point we will probably get the ability to deploy mining facilities as well, but not for launch. There is no crafting or item creation in the game. All ships and equipment are bought from space stations, sometimes depending on having good standing with the right faction.

The multiplayer aspects are very nascent/underdeveloped. That MMO aspect will be better developed in the future, but as of right now, the latest big patch kinda screwed up text chat for myself and multiple others. You may or may not see other players flying around, and depending on where you are, you may go days without seeing another person, as has been my experience. I've seen only about 5-6 people since gamma started, but I've also spent 90% of my time at the periphery of inhabited space.

That said, I really enjoy this game a bunch, spending most of my time trading and exploring, but improving the multiplayer is paramount to this game's longevity, I think. At minimum, adding a chat channel in stations would go a long way to creating an in game community (flame away forum trolls). One thing this game suffers from, is the fragmentation of the community. There are private groups people can join where they will ONLY EVER see other people from that group in game, along with npcs. There are groups with thousands of members, who will never see the light of open play. There are also the people who only ever want to play solo. So what's left is high degrees of fragmentation. Regardless, the game does not at all feel like an MMO/MMORPG, and rarely feels like MP, from my experience. But again, I still thoroughly enjoy the game for what it is.

As far as the economy, humans and npcs both, are supposed to have an impact on supply and demand at all the stations (I'm PRETTY sure the npcs have an effect, at least). No crafting, but there's plenty of ship modification you can do through purchasing module upgrades, with different types of stock available at different stations (and there's a great wealth of different types of upgrades you can buy for your ships).

You can currently do the following for professions:

Trade
Mine
Bounty Hunt
Smuggle
Pirate
Explore
Some or all of these may or may not include plenty of combat, depending. The biggest limitation is imagination, I think. I would look up game play videos on youtube or find a streamer on twitch.tv to get an idea of what to expect.
