How much to get elite?

So I am currently
Combat: Dangerous
Explorer: Ranger
And Trade: Tycoon

Now I never focused on getting elite but since I heard a rumor that you get 2% off everything if you have elite in something and that jamesons memorial has all equipment for 10% off. Now I want that trade rank elite

I was wondering. What would it take?
I have a cutter that can carry 700 units of cargo. How long will it take me to trade my way to elite?

I thought the ancient mission works towards trade rank, should give a nice boost.

combat.. grab a ship of death and go a compremized navbeacon, kill EVERYTHING.

This is the profit requirements for Elite:

Penniless0
Mostly Penniless5,000
Peddler100,000
Dealer800,000
Merchant3,700,000
Broker30,000,000
Entrepreneur133,510,138
Tycoon381,000,000
Elite1,011,828,840

So basically, for every one percent increase in Tycoon, you need to earn 1.12 million credits - ouch

(I think - maths was never my strong suit)

For the average player who does not look at the ranks of his targets, you can expect elite combat rank at about 10000 kills.

Oh, sorry, I see you were specifically asking about trading.

well trading specifically but thanks for everyone who posted about combat and exploration ^....^

and 1billion?! sounds about right...
Though in a cutter I am sure I can make 1 million profit per trip in trading easily

Interesting.
But I have a trade rank of Broker (16%) with a trading profit of 2,073,661 CR.
Am I missing something here?

If you're after some discounts just head to Li Yong-Rui aligned systems for 15% discount, Alioth (permit required) offers 20% off Asps and Orcas, the main advantage of Founders is that all the ships and equipment are in the one place.

I've around 12000 kills for Deadly + 72% I believe the number required is dependent on the rank of each kill so it'd take a lot more Sideys than Condas I'm afraid

Quite a few mission types add to your trade rank but not to your 'trade profit' statistic. Seems to be about 1:1 on the mission payouts and the rank.

A cargo hauling mission might pay half a million for hauling 30 tonnes to the next system, which is a much better profit/tonne than regular trading, for example. Add on any courier missions going the same way for an easy bonus.

Find the right stations and you can probably fill your cargo hold almost entirely with missions even in a big ship (I use a Python because a lot of the good mission stations where I am are outposts)

Money from mission running counts towards trading but isn't counted in the profits section. I'm Tycoon 28% but only around 100M profits.

Becoming Elite grants the CMDR a 2.5% ship / equipment discount anywhere - this compounds with any other discount that may be applicable locally, i.e. at Jameson Memorial prices are reduced by 12.25% (100% - (100% - 2.5%)*(100% - 10%)) compared to normal prices; in Li Yong-Rui docks by 17.125%; etc..

as for trading. state depending trading in a cutter gives you 12-18 mio per hour, sometimes even more.

that translates to ~3% rank increase per hour, so ~33 hours to go from tycoon to elite.

when i did elite in trading, i went trading before and after work ;-)

That has to be wrong, that means for 1 run I should earn 2%...I don't, its probably more like 6 runs when I get 1% (760 ton Cutter)

Yes...it's not just about credits or profit.
Missions also give you ranking points

e.g. I only have 300-400 million credits from trading and am Elite-Trading...which I got mostly from smuggling missions from CEOS/SOTHIS back into the bubble back in the good ol' days.

you need ~700 mio profit to go from tycoon to elite.

so 1% rank increase is ~7 mio profit.

a good state depending route which you have to scout by yourself can create 4500-6100 cr/t profit a-b-a (or more, but 6100 cr/t profit is the best route i have personally milked).

I have three accounts and not one Elite ranking on any of them after two years. I do reset on occasion and really don't mind that.

I do have enough cash that a 2% discount isn't really a motivation.
