Hardware & Technical How much work is needed for a new ship

A question for all those graphics designers out there, I was just wondering, once a ship is designed, how much work is needed to get it in the game.

For example, if the Serenity, the Millennium Falcon or an Enterprise were added (and I'm not suggesting they should be, merely using them as examples of already designed ships) how long would it take?

A day, a week, a month, longer?

Incredibly difficult question to answer without knowing the process that Frontier devs have to go through. But given that all current ships have been designed with procedurally generated interiors; it is probably not as easy as just importing a mesh ;)

I was surprised by how much effort they are putting into the ships at first, perhaps because I was still thinking single colour filled polygons.

They seem to be taking the look and functionality of each one very seriously. From what we have seen it seems to be an iterative process where they come up with heaps of options, continually refine it, until they find the one, and then go to work on that and consider every facet.

It might seem like a long time but with this in mind I wouldn't be surprised if a ship from start to finish takes up to a man month to complete.

Perhaps we should ask them.
