How my crew can enter to gunner role?

I tried multicrew with my son but we could not get the gunner role work. I have turrets in my python and my son selects gunner role but he does not get the external gunner view. His position says gunner and my hud says he is gunner but still he is inside my ship. Is this control issue or what should we do? Do I have to tick my turrets somehow?
 
Anyone? I have no idea why this is not working. Do I have to do somthing that gunner can use my turrets?
 
its an issue with keybinds

against all intuition, you have a seperate keybind for primary, secondardy and two additional Fire buttons.
against all logic, in turret mode you got no access to your usual target lock keys

and well, its kinda bugged that sometimes the gunner can't create any firegroups because those keybinds dont register.l
 
when a friend tryed the gunner the other day he could set the fire groups but could not work out how to get to the external view to fire the guns

but he did have fun trashing all my SLF's lol
 
You have to go out to options - controls and then look at Multicrew bindings.

You need to select a key to enter role, this will make you go from gunner in chair to gunner in space and back again.

You also need to go into right panel and set up bindings for weapons.

Another useful keybind is cycle UI, this changes the default view of ship hologram to radar view when you are back in gunner seat.

Took me about 15-20 mins to work all that out, and a post in the newcomers section to find out how you change the radar view.

The bindings can take a time, so be patient with other players that hop in, as first time nothing works.

Note as Helm you can disable SCB module and re-enable when gunner is happy with bindings, you don't want them firing off everything in one go!

Also consider push to talk button for Comms, so players don't hear you eating crisps all the time ;) Although if it's your son you will probably be shouting a each other across the room!
