How often are they going to release expansions?

Hmmm...

Have just been reading THIS.

So it looks as though there are AT LEAST five expansions anticipated.

Which is nice. :D

Update is not same as expansion.
Updates they will release quite often and those will be free. Do you really think that mod support update is scope of one expansion?

During the Kickstarter, Frontier Developments said that they were making a loss on the £80 tier, since the expansions will cost significantly more when buying them separately, so I would recommend everyone who can afford it to get it all now, while you still can.

Do you have the source for this?

Well, I upgraded my pledge to First Round Beta so I'll get all the expansions as well.. The main reason for me to upgrade tho was to get to try the game on January :p

Which probably one reason why that particular reward will go bye bye at the same time as the floodgates soon will open up and info and gameplay videos will start to pour out. Loosing money by "giving away" free expansions isn't good business. Much better to let all the new people coming in open up their wallets instead! :D

Andrew Sayers, the master of digging up info, posted the source a while ago. Check his post for the quote and the link:

However that link does nothing towards lending any credence to "FD selling it at a loss" argument. They are selling it less than they wanted, sure, but that's not any indication of a profit/loss statement. In all likelihood they figured if they did sell it at £150 not as many backers would take it up which is why they gambled and lowered the price.

Fantastic job looking that up!

Private Backers forum and expansions, here I come!!
I still believe it represents good value - Elite and the sequels have lasted some people a long time and if FD play this right ED could be a huge potential earner for them. Given the right add-ons I could be playing this for years.

I would put it down as a 'loss'-leader from FD's point of view... It encourages potential evangelists to go for the free expansions so they'll download anyway which will provide FD with a group of people who have a no-risk expansion available to them.

I suspect that FD would then be hoping these people would then be advocating the purchase of the expansion to those who have to pay. This way you increase/speed up take up of the expansion instead of people sitting on their hands waiting for a decent sized group of people to 'buy before I do' and 'iron out the problems'.... I hope that makes sense... up too early in the morning for heavy thinking... and it's a Sunday too.... Ugh

It does make sense, though "early" is relative .. 10.30am here :p

add ons or no , this will most likly be my last game (well i shouldnt be here at all realy) , even if i end up forced into single player off line  tho i hope ED lasts 10 years at least.
which are the reasons i came in at space station + extras

Well, price in capitalism is set not by how much work went into it, but how much people are ready pay for it. I was ready to pay for core game + all expansions 80 pounds.

Also that tier really can be seen a loss leader, if they manage to release more than two expansions (which they obviously do).

True but ED could become a bit like the Sims where there are quite a few expansions. Alien races expansion(s)? Planetary landing expansion? Secret Missions expansion? Base Expansion? They are just some ideas off the top of my head. Surely the concept alone could be well worth the speculation? Well, it was for me anyway :)

Yes I see it as well. This is why it is important to have the pack of expensions

And where is the loss of a few thousand commitment to £ 90 for expensions when we know there will be hundreds of thousands of players ?
