How to activate a scanner?

how do you activate a scanner I have read 22000 pages on scanning and they watched 942 videos on scanning and they all tell you the benefits of scanning that I already know what none of them tell you is out to activate the scanner it must be obvious but I ain't seeing it so if anyone can tell me which button to press I will buy you a car
by the way I have 22000 scanners that have bought so I will definitely have the scanner that I need whatever I need it for

Does it matter which?
You assign a Fire button in the Fire Groups screen then press that fire button. Sometimes it may require to switch the HUD in analysis mode - no idea if you have to bind a key for that too

Now that you've been instructed in how to set up fire groups (from your other thread), all you have to do is ensure you have a key bound to cycle through your fire groups. I think the default key is N on the PC (I could be wrong).

Once you have selected your scanner, press the fire button. It's the same as firing a laser. You fire it for long enough for the scanner to give you a result (depends on the type of scanner used).

Do I qualify for the free car ? :)

No one seems to be answering you. So...press the mode select key to switch between combat mode (which you are in which is why your cannons are firing) and scan mode.

It's 'Y' on xbox360, and 'M' on keyboard.

N is the default cycle key on PC.
