How to actually Shoot sub systems

Hi all,

I know that you can target the sub systems of another ship and I can see how that is done.

How do you actually shoot the sub systems though? Do you have to have gimbal weapons and those will target the sub system you have selected and/or be an incredibly good aim to actually hit the point on the ship you are trying to damage?

I must admit I tend to use fixed weapons up to now as I understand they do more damage for the same class, and I tend to take on a lot of smaller fast ships so I don't fancy my chances of manually hitting a specific point on the ship.

Also, does this only work when you have their shields down?

cheers

Yep, you nailed it. Be good at accurate shooting and get in close, or use gimbals - after dropping the shields.

It's only worthwhile on bigger ships, where popping the power plant will kill it quickly or blowing the cargo hatch makes for an early Christmas.

You pretty much got it, shields need to be down, gimballs aim for subsytem selected. Unless your gimballin' then you need some good aim to actually hit the system.

You don't have to target a subsystem to deal damage to it with fixed weapons if you know where to aim.

The huge engines on Anacondas are quite easy to damage without targeting.

The smaller targets like FSD or power plant are easier to hit with the red box showing you where to aim. With automatically aimed weapons you must target the subsystem unless it's something that can't be missed, ex: Anaconda engines from behind etc...
