How to add animals to a habitat?

I know this is probably something very obvious but how do I get animals to appear in a habitat I have built? Whenever I try to add an animal it gives me a message against the animal saying 'Relocating to habitat' but the animal never appears. What am I doing wrong?

They don’t “appear” like, for example, Zoo Tycoon. The animals you have are on the trade center. In order to relocate them to an habitat, you need a physical trade center building and a janitor, that would be the one to transport them.

Make sure the janitor can access the habitat and there’s a completely path from the trade center to the staff door.

As per Charmmy, it may be that the nearest trade center is a fair distance away and the only available janitor is resting .. check your janitor status and trade center locations .. if necessary get new ones set up near where you want to use them.

Hi Profcool, I'd advise you play the first three levels of Career Mode, as it'll teach you exactly how to add animals to a habitat!

If you're in Sandbox/Franchise/Challenge Mode:
  • Build a Trade Centre and Staff Building, and your empty Habitat. You can also add a Veterinarian building if you like.
  • Power the facilities. If your habitat has water, make sure to add a Water Treatment plant as well so the water stays clean!
  • Hire a Zookeeper, Vet, and/or Caretaker (they transport your animals)
  • Go to the Animal Market, the top button (paw print) should show which animals are available
  • Adopt animal(s)
  • Go to Storage (the second icon, paw print in house) and select animal(s) to Send to Zoo (you can select multiple animals!)
  • Select the Habitat the animal(s) should be sent to.

Thank you! I wondered why my keeper refused to put my giant turtles in the lovely home I had just built them!
