How to avoid fighter-pilot getting paid?

o7 Commanders,

I will soon start exploring.
For fun reasons i wanna use a fighter.
For that, i need to hire a pilot.

When i will return and sell my exploration data, how can i avoid that he gets paid?

I suppose 1. dismiss him and then 2. sell the data.

Right?

Thx and fly safely

I stopped keeping pet crewmembers a while back, as all they do is drain your profits - even when they aren't in your ship.

So just hire an expert crew when you need one. On returning to a station, the first thing you do is to sack them. Hire another before you leave.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

It's a hard life, being a fighter pilot. :p

Not sure what your plan is but you can explore with a fighter & no NPC pilot. The mothership will follow basic commands (follow me, stay put).

I have found that mine doesn't "stay put" without a pilot in control.
I use SLFs quite a bit for planetary codex entries and "weeeee look mum no flight assist", moments :). (much quicker than landing and SRVs)

Are you Donald Trump?

If he was, he'd have closed down Frontier and the forums until someone answered.

D'oh!

I don't use fighters or crew members - I thought they only took a percentage of combat profits - so they actually take a percentage of all profits?

Yes, everything.

Until NPC crew become more personal, like being able to sit in the empty seat beside me, I tend to treat them like the hireable mercenaries in Skyrim. I hire them to come on board to do a specific job, they are paid up front to do the job, and then we part ways when we dock again. As long as we part ways before I get paid for bounties / exploration data / commodities, then I don't have to "part ways" with my hard-earned cash.

FWIW, I really want a true NPC crew that I'd be happy to pay an actual salary for, but what we currently have is just a very poor placeholder.

I sacked my Crew... bunch of leeches that i hardly ever used.

If i need one i just hire a master for the day, then let him/her go once im done.

Maybe Fdev should introduce tempory contract prices.

I keep a full stable of fighter pilots. What little they take I don't really notice. It's not like I'm strapped for credits or anything, so.. whatever.

Yes. Any monety you get wont be shared with crew you fired before.

Thanks fot clearing the fire-him-and-don't-share-method up for me.

For canyiong, it seems safest to
Get a high ranked pilot
And tell him to stay put...

Where are the times a pilot - whether Player or NPC - could trust on reliability and honor?

I ranked up 6 (or 7?) pilots, lost 4 (or 5?) of them and I believe they did cost me roughly 2 billion so far.
My current couple - one Elite, one Deadly - take together 25% of my earnings and you know what?
I don't regret a single penny.
They were and are among the most funny and helpful assets in the game.
Cannot count how many CZz we fought single-handedly or undermined full systems.

Never ever I would dismiss them for poor credit considerations.

Even more as earning credits is so easy.

Long live my NPC crew pilots, honor and kudos to them!

Even though I don't use my fighter bays too often, I've trained my pilot up to dangerous from harmless. She's almost deadly and is really a great advantage in combat. She'll get me the bounty kill when the enemy is about to pop and I'm to far away and she's a great distraction. The 8% I pay her right now and assuming 10% when she hits elite is literally peanuts compared to her usefulness.

Just my 2 cents on the topic. But yeah just fire them before cashing anything in if you don't want to pay.
