I've recently got back into this game after not playing it since 2015 and from videos I've seen I'm super interested in buying the Alliance Chieftain but I cannot for the life of me find out how to buy it? I went to a station that apparently sells it but it's not there for me. Can somebody help me out?

Add the Chieftan and your location, do a search, pick somewhere close and check the 'prices update' column to find somewhere with recently updated prices. Ships do go out of stock, so you probably found a station that doesn't currently have any in.

If you go in Alliance controlled systems, you might have a higher chance. Lakon (the manufacturer) has its headquarters in Alioth, but it's permit locked (in case you don't have it), but many systems around it should have it available.

If you have elite rank in anything you'll have access to Jameson Memorial in Shinrarta Dezhra, which has everything at a 10% discount...
Are you loading the original base game? That won't include the Chief. You should have Horizons for free since just before Odyssey release last year. (edit - load Horizons, is what I'm saying)

You should be. It is, in my humble opinion, the best pure dog fighter out there.
They don't mention that everything at that station costs 20% more. Which means you pay more for the ship and modules, and have a higher rebuy, too. Just FYI.
sadly there is no alliance station in LYR space so you cant get a cheap rebuy one.
You can (at least in the past) get the Chieftain at LYR space. But not the Challenger. Use eddb.io and I'm sure you'll still be able to find it.
