How to celebrate those who have become Elite?

Some commanders will be elevated to the rank of Elite. Perhaps you ? We will have the pleasure of admiring them. In what form? On-board computer, with the date of the elevation, spaceship of commander at the time of the elevation, summary performance ect ... A pantheon, a temple, a museum, with monuments, statues, canvases of masters ect ... Do you think it must exist? If so, in what form ?

I think;

A signed original t- shirt (the MKI with the massive logo - has to be a collectors item).

A specially composed re-working of a classic song with Elite related lyrics - massacred - sorry I mean sung - by you know who..

:D

Definitely a wall of Fame, just something to admire if you reach Elite status and show the hard work and fun getting there!

Be great if Frontiers sent out an Elite Badge like they did in the orginal, but a simple name on a wall is fine if not.............and yes a personal song composed by "The name" thats not allowed to be mentioned would be cool to :p

Actually joking apart there could be some sort roll of honour on the walls in space stations or something permanent in game. As well as a real world badge and such like.

I do like the wall of fame Idea.. how about screens that show the details of the Commanders who have achieved Elite in each Station. But there is an actual wall of fame situated on/at the Founders World (it would make in-game sense to have it there as well).

'they wot duz that singing schtuff' could do a one of performance live in your living room for the first Elite pilot... and deliver your badge in person..

I also think a nice big tacky letting should appear on your screen saying 'Game Over'

A wall of fame or even hall of fame would be good. Maybe it could also get a mention on the ingame news feeds?

"Breaking news here at GNN. Commander Frank has achieved Elite status..."

As for 'he whose name should not be mentioned' creating a personal song that might be cool:p but I'm not sure that all of the commanders names will fit easily into lyrics. he could find it quite challenging.

Wall of Fame sounds a great idea. First person to Elite will be quite an achievement.

I hate to be cynical (not really ;) ) but the first person, as in "individual" to get to Elite will be impossible to know. The first character(s) to get to Elite will have been played by 3 or more people in shifts JUST to get there first. Sad, but true.

A 2001 style obelisk in the founders system that's mysteriously black and just 'there' until someone reaches Elite and there commander name appears as if by magic :D

I'm thinking the Elite pilots etc. should remain as secretive as they have always been in the Elite universe. That is, no public celebration or names on papers - merely a private note to the character, decal for the ship (optional) and a real world item (badge) in the mail.

Agreed with keeping Elites from being announced like famous celebrities. There are going to be options for notoriety and fame if I'm not mistaken, such as exploration or mercenary work, but the Elite Federation of Pilots appears to have always been a secretive bunch.

I thought the whole idea of "Elite" status was to mimic the sort of glory that the World War One flying aces received, and they were very public. It was all part of the propaganda campaign.

Was any fuss made over the first person to get to Elite? It's so long in the past that I can't remember.

Jabokai if theres ever a wall of joy...your never going on it! :p

The optimist in me hopes most who reach Elite do it in by themselves, not saying your wrong in your view, but am always hopeful that the majority will do it that way, even the first ones to get there! ;)

As for being secretive when reaching Elite status....HELL NO! If i get there am gonna bore you lot to death about it on the forums, on your FB page and even try get on the BBC news! :p

I have no shame and no decorum!....hide it indeed?

edit, just saw your post Frank, agree it was about Glory/propaganda....letting those know that your a bad ass, if anyone wants to be quiet and secretive when reaching Elite status fine, but no one will ever know you.

Birthdays must be great fun in your house :p

eheheh nice angle of thought though... I think the first Elite should be celebrated and promoted.. the rest..well who cares! :D

I think you are all missing something here. You all talk about the Elite rating as if it's still based on kills, like the old games, let me point something out to you:

http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6279
Becoming Elite - Ratings
  • The “Elite” rating is a combat rating based on the number of successful pirate kills by a pilot. To get this rating requires a great deal of dedication. Additional routes to an “Elite” rating and that coveted membership were introduced in 3290.
  • Three new possible “Elite” rankings, in addition to the combat effectiveness rating (still based on number of kills using a player rating and ship formula) now cover new key areas:
    • Wealth: profit over accumulated net worth (though both values are taken into account)
    • Influence: based on contacts and successful negotiations or diplomacy.
    • Knowledge: acquisition of data, particularly through exploration.
  • Getting the Elite rating (in any of the four rankings) automatically gets you into the exclusive “Elite Federation of Pilots” – and being a member of the Elite federation confers many privileges. It is also possible for pilots without the “Elite” rating to gain admission to the EFP, but access to the organisation is extremely difficult: one must show extraordinary promise as a pilot to be admitted.
    • The pilot ratings are displayed openly if the pilot selects their rating to be public
    • If the player selects their rating to be private then it is only revealed via a scan
  • These values never decrease
  • Once admitted the pilot will be awarded a badge including the “Elite” logo, but with their current rank below. It is expected the majority of these will be “Elite: Dangerous” and “Elite: Deadly”. Those with an “Elite” rating get the original, unadorned badge.
  • The different ratings have their own badge colour
  • Once admitted to the EFP, elite missions/events become available to the event generator
  • Successful resolution of elite missions/events will increase a hidden elite value
  • In general, elite missions/events are not tied to any particular location or gameplay area, and are given context as having come through the EFP’s good offices (see the Pilot’s Federation document for more detail)
  • There will be missions available from the EFP to non-members, and will be presented as tests that will help gain admission. Elite missions/events are more likely to be generated for pilots with suitable reputations in specific areas (mercenary, bounty hunting, assassination, smuggling)
  • When the elite value is high enough a commander is invited to join the Elite Federation
  • Elite level missions will be unlocked once the commander has entered the Elite federation to give them new content to experience

In this part of his post, he mentions four Elite ratings and a hidden Elite rating. So how do you now decide on who is "Elite"? Is it any of the four known ratings? Or are you talking about becoming Elite in all of them?

I think you can't consider someone "Elite" until they are Elite in all the ratings. Otherwise you'll have people going "Yeah, I'm Elite in wealth" ... "Ah, but I'm Elite in knowledge, so ner ner ner ner ner ner ner!!!"

When the person comes along who has an Elite rating in ALL the areas mentioned above, you will know about it and no wall of fame or songs will be needed.

And if you read the above quote, badges are mentioned

@ Alien, thanks but i suspect many of us already know about how the new Elite rankings work(well i did) :)

and believe me anyone just getting to any of these one out of four rankings will still get my admiration. Each Elite rank will take time and considerable all round skills to accomplice, so doing all four may take a life time!

and i want my name on a wall damn it! if Banksy can be famous so can i! :p

Birthdays must be great fun in your house :p
Hehe, actually our birthday celebrations tend to be multi-day events, especially when the birthday falls on a workday (we'll leave the proper celeb for the weekend, and the hero gets to choose all the movies for the weekend).

Don't agree with you - anyone who attains the rating of Elite in any of the 4 disciplines is Elite in my book. If you achieve that but still feel inferior that is your problem - the fact that there are 4 routes to the same doesn't mean that "true" Elites have them all, it simply means they play too much :D
