How to combine buildings? And other questions

I'm building a BIG hotel, but sometimes, the "building template" doesn't let you be precise, so you separate some objects from the building to put them where you want. The problem is that know I want to combine them, but I don't see how and I can't find any answer.

This building system it's a real pain sometimes, an slows down the effectivity, for example, if I forgot to select some color to an object, I'm not able to select all the pieces to change the color unless they are part of the same building or aren't part of any building. It's that normal?

And the grid sizes should give you the option to be smaller, because sometimes you can't put walls were you want unless you use the "Advanced move", but to do this, you have to split the object from the building, and this way the game doesn't fix the textures because it dosn't recognize the Wall next to him.

It's incredible the level of creativity that gives the game to you, I spend hours building things, but the tools are a lot clunky. If the game it's going to be a creativity one (And it looks that way), we need more quality of life changes.

As far as I can tell you can't combine parts into a building. You might try to copy the items, select and edit the building and paste the parts in.

Another thing that might help is you can group select with the ctrl key ( drag or click click click ) and move the group somewhere else for a while, but keep it as part of the building.

My guess as to why this seems weird and arbitrary is they probably need a lot of the parts to conform to a single grid to make it easier for auto cornering to work. Paste into grid functionality might be a good thing to request, wouldn't require a huge level of effort.

For me the biggest thing that gets in my way is all the weird modes advanced move gets into and needing to confirm the move in some cases and not in others. And yet others a confirm duplicates the selection. You really don't need a confirmation and an undo. And duplicate should be a key combo and drag, not some weird modal thing.

If you want to move pieces that do not have a grid from one building to another, it's easy - disconnect from one and add to another. You are right - can't do it - if you want to move pieces with a grid between buildings.

I think it's a matter of understanding the limitation when you begin, and adjusting work style to work with the limitations rather than fighting them. A helpful technique is to create a series of wall templates that are intended for repetitive use. Build templates - wall sections and/or roofs as wide and high as its repeating pattern. Each template includes all decorations. No need to even start on the building until you have your set of templates. Then using the templates as building blocks, copy/paste them into the building as needed. For many buildings, this can substantially cut down the time it takes to complete the building.

Answer to paragraph 1: you have to click on the pieces then click on “remove from building” then draw a box around the pieces “removed from building” and part of the building you want to add them to. Then a menu pops up on the upper right side of your screen. Hit the 2nd icon which looks like a tree. That add the non-building pieces to the “Building” and becaome 1. I do that when other peoples blueprint are made up of multiple buildings to make them 1

Answer to paragraph 2: you can move from 1 “building” to another, to change colors etc, without having to close 1 building and clicking edit on the other. But yes, to go from 1 Building to a non-building you have to close the Building tgat you were editing.

Paragraph 3: you can change the grid size for any piece your putting down so you can overlap walls for tight places. There are 3 choices.

YES, building.....is time consuming

hope it helps

Thanks! I will try it. Yeah, I know that I can change the grid size, in height I have no problem, but with the horizontal size… the blocks doesn't let you sometimes put walls were you want, it leaves spaces on the margins.

About fences… are they almost imposible to use properly or is there a secret mechanic that I don't see [haha] ? Because a path mechanic implement to fences would be good.

Another problem I see is that you can't terraform in shapes like squares. In my actual building I wanted to use "lakes" like in Versailles (But smaller xD), and I had to use a trick with rides to make squares lakes.

And while building the lake, another question pop up... special effects can only be triggered by coasters and rides? Because I wanted to do some kind of show with water, but I can't make them follow a pattern even with the "start after X seconds".

Are there a mirror option? If not, it would be really usefull, because right know, to do a mirror building, I had to copy some parts from my previous building, and change some, so a button to mirror the entire object would be welcome.

I will continue to post every question and idea that comes to my mind. [big grin]
Thanks all!
