How to compete for the top 5% in community goals when you compete against cheats?

I joined the community event, the event was fairly new, still on tier one since is the first day, after two days I made it to the top 5% with 3.8 millions earned, it was a little bit time consuming but I was fun, and it did brought me a small sense of satisfaction but then it hit me, I notice that on the very first day of the event the top contributor had 41 millions earned in the combat zone, probably using well known combat zone cheat, I would like to think that what he does does not affect me and I don't care, but then I consider a problem, how long before enough people start doing the same cheat so the only way to get in the top 5% is using the same cheat?, then I realized that yes their cheat does affect my game play and all others who don't use the cheat, but preventing us from gaining a place in those top global rewards.

Edit: No, this is not turret farming which is an exploit not a cheat, I do not want to point out the exact cheat here, but you can easily google the cheat engine used for this and other cheats, like instant trading from station to station across multiple systems (not wing trading).

Edit 2: No I'm not going to report the players in question, there is no way to report a growing number of players using a cheat that should be fixed by developers.

I joined the community even 'IN DEFENCE OF VOLUNGU" the event was fairly new, still on tier one since is the first day, after two days I made it to the top 5% with 3.8 millions earned, it was a little bit time consuming but I was fun, and it did brought me a small sense of satisfaction but then it hit me, I notice that on the very first day of the event the top contributor had 41 millions earned in the combat zone, probably using well known combat zone cheat, I would like to think that what he does does not affect me and I don't care, but then I consider a problem, how long before enough people start doing the same cheat so the only way to get in the top 5% is using the same cheat?, then I realized that yes their cheat does affect my game play and all others who don't use the cheat, but preventing us from gaining a place in those top global rewards.

Assume that when the goal ends Frontier investigate the top players and takes action if they have grounds. Highly ranked players have been removed from rankings before.

I already was of the assumption that the top 5% would be composed of cheaters idling in solo combat zones, and that the top 40 or top 15 is usually the best I could hope for. Seeing as you got there though it's somewhat heartening to know there aren't enough cheaters for it to make such a profound difference, and at the very least their cheating amounts to getting the CG tiers higher for everyone else too. I think the fear is overblown, every game has cheats and the P2P netcode means it probably always will. Just report anything that looks weird to get rid of the worst offenders and we'll be fine.

Just joined the event yesterday. Have cleared around 5.5million in CBS in a little over 5 hrs. So while yes 43 million is a tad excessive it is certainly possible. You would be suprised at how some gamers put life on hold to grind 24/7 for stuff like this.

Someone playing a solid 12-14 hours could probably achieve that, so it isn't necessarily cheating (just excessive).

define the cheat u r saying....and u have the option to report that to FD

It is this exploit that will ensure that conflict zones where one side has a cap ship will always be unbalanced.

Though, it should be unbalanced...one faction brought the huge guns. However, the CG tied to it will play out unfairly for those involved in it.

erm that so called cheat was nerfed to the ground lol ;p

I've been in top 40% on a couple of CG's and top 15% in the latest. I was happy with that. If people are doing bad stuff for the 'top spot's - I'm not worried.
I'll let others worry about rankings.

The last time I went to one of these events I would see the same players for 12-16 hrs.
I would log off for a few and return and it was still the same players there. It was the same all week.
This is pretty normal in mmo's to find hardcore farmers.
I don't doubt there are cheaters in solo but alot of farming is genuine, excessive hardcore grinding.

Hi,
it is not that hard just time consuming. I played since the Event Startet (maybe a hour later) and im Position 2 at the moment. I only have slept 4 hours this night so i played the event for 15 Hours (sry cant remenber when it startet).
You ask why i play that much, because i have 4 day off from work and cant play much when i work ;)

Ohhh and the game is all grind so that is how you play it xD

Oh..forgive me...I took a break from ED for a good while and just started up again last night. I only did a few trade runs when I returned to my trusty Clipper. I just assumed the exploit was still around. Good that it was squashed.

The sad part is that those playing solid 12 hours are not the ones the names of the top 5 contributor players, yes they are more likely in the top 5% but still far behind those playing a few minutes using a cheat.

My thanks to the dedicated Federation commanders getting involved in this goal. We are defending the Federation from this invasion by the Empire and doing it with style. The presence of the Empire in this area of space represents a clear and present danger to the federation as this attack has shown. Rest assured that once we have successfully defended Volungu we will move to eradicate this threat in Liaedin.
