Horizons How to control the turret gun...

Hello Commanders,

I have been trying to use the SRV turret gun, but it seems that the darned thing is just too hard to control! I can't get it to move slow enough to actually aim!

I use a HOTAS (X52 Pro) and use the hat on the stick to try to control the turret guns, but it has not been a very successful thing.

Would anyone have some ideas on how to control them guns?

Thank you for any real help given, and [down] for the smart-alecky replies!

Trying not to be at all smart-bottomed - I use the analogue mini-stick on my CHPro Throttle - does the X52 have something like that? It is useful in that you can steer the buggy with the right hand and manoeuvre the turret with the left whilst still controlling throttle.

There is one mini joystick (very mini!). I would have thought like you: great to control both turret and SRV, but it turns out that the area of movement of the joystick is very small, resulting in very fast response from the armament. Oh well, I'll just have to get used to the hat switch, as per metatheurgist input.

Thank you for the help,

Good day CMDRs,

I finally solved the problem by the obvious: use the stick to control the turret and twist the stick to drive the SRV. That works pretty well!

I do exactly the same. I additionally have it mapped to mouse also in case I need precision. Usually I don't and can keep the hands on HOTAS. I also use this same scheme for the FSS.

re the FSS - I currently use the ministick x-axis as tuning, I think I might change to make the ministick control the FSS camera (pitch and yaw) and use the Fighterstick Z-axis as absolute tuning as I think I am wasting two axes otherwise. Thanks for triggering this in my brain. [up]

I have a different configuration,

I steer the SRV with my pedals (left/right), and control the speed with my throttle, I use joystick for flying with the SRV (pitch/roll).

Now flying while in turret mode is terrible, so this makes using the to control the gun a good option.

My reasoning for this was that I wanted a single set of reusable controls regardless of what I was driving/flying. so steering is most similar to yaw when flying, and it took a really short time to learn to drive with your legs doing the steering and hand doing controlling the speed.
