How to deinstall Odyssey without deinstalling Horizons?

Anyone can tell me how to do this, to avoid to deinstall all, and install Horizons again, only to ban Odyssey from my local drive?

If you have Elite on Steam I think you can just uninstall the DLC from there. Same goes for Epic.

If you have Elite via FDEV store, what you can do is to delete this folder: elite-dangerous-odyssey-64. It is located here: (Drive, like C):\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products - that's where Odyssey is installed.

You won't be able to run Odyssey obviously and you will have to play Horizons from the Launcher after you do that. Note you won't be able to uninstall the Horizon updates, which this module receives along with Odyssey.

Best thing just change the name of the foler, for example from elite-dangerous-odyssey-64 to elite-dangerous-odyssey-64-DELETED and try to run Horizons. If it works - delete the folder fully. If it doesn't, you will need to restore the original name and unfortunately live with it being installed.

Deleting the folder usually works. I did so for the alpha without telling any other software officially and horizons was fine, and i was able to download odysee when it launched as well without any problems.

For me, that doesn't work. It starts Odyssey anyway, which I can't play in VR. I have it installed via Steam which auto Installs that DLC regardless. If I choose to remove the DLC I am told by the frontier front end that I can only play in the 'legacy' galaxy.

Odyssey and Horizons "live" aren't actually two separate games, Horizons "live" is Odyssey with player restrictions, if you delete Odyssey you delete Horizons "live", leaving only Horizons "legacy" which is a different game to Odyssey/Horizons Live. You can tell this is the case because Horizons "live" players occaisionally get sent to Odyssey settlements for missions and they can't land there. Everything in Odyssey is in Horizons "live", you just can't access it, you can't have just Horizons without switching to the legacy version.

The advice given in 2021 was correct at the time, it no longer is (as of update 14). As Varonica states 'live' clients all use the same installation so removing Odyssey but not Horizons 4.0 won't save you any HD space.

You can play Odyssey in VR & just not go on foot to have a full VR experience, which will give you the benefit of some more planets to land on & some extra docks to use. The only advantage Horizons 4.0 provides (if you own Odyssey) is the ability to instance with players that don't own Odyssey.

I've been in this VR is the best experience and what is the best for it, Horizon Legacy or Horizon 4.0/Odyssey?

Odyssey has issues with VR that Horizon Legacy does not. I've now noticed that it really is related to the lighting engine and performance more times than not. It really causes eye strain to the max. There are other issues as well (mostly the defective AA), that would drive VR users to Horizon Legacy. But as a VR only player, I chose Odyssey (or Horizon 4.0) because...

1) It is the future, this is the version that will be updated. Development for future is slow now, a turtle pace, FDev seems to be lacking support from Frontier budgeting. But it is still the ongoing future of the game, though slow as it is... Horizons Legacy is now dead in the water. And don't forget, you can't carry over progress from Legacy Horizons to Horizons 4.0 / Odyssey (correct me if I'm wrong).

2) The planet tech in 4.0 has got better and it shows. I actually like it now and have been surprised by some VR planet landings, though there is still some oddness going on (planet surface morphing which still exists but a lot less of it).

3) Performance is better. Still odd things here and there, but overall, it has improved. Why not have faith and consider it may continue this way?

4) I don't play the foot FPS stuff, my concentration is on VR ship only, because that is all I have for VR. Fine, still great. But I do foot for Engineers and Exobiology. Love that part, though it really is insulting to witness the "Flat screen simulation" for VR users. But still, it is additional experience than what you get with the Horizons 3.8 way.

5) VR made Elite Dangerous awesome, and I can't believe the company responsible for this brilliant accomplishment would turn their back on it. Sure, the accountants and business execs that have no clue but numbers on a spreadsheet would not understand, but look where they are taking the company now. Really sad. I really wish them financial success, but not expecting it in the direction the company is headed.

6) Finally, back to number one, Odyssey/Horizon 4.0 is the way to get future content, regardless of VR status today. VR is still incredible for Odyssey and I want my career to be available for future content. Whatever it is. Is ED dying? I don't think so. My main concern is the execs in Frontier are milking it for their get rich schemes for other development projects that are not delivering. When will they realize ED delivers and they should stop the "expand our options to make more money" schemes? Sorry, way off track now. Main point is VR is great in Odyssey as well, though it is not FULLY supported. Still incredible and fun (ignoring the non-VR FPS stuff).

7) Your decision. If this game is nearing its termination point, it doesn't matter which way you go. Deleting Odyssey might be fine. But I like to be optimistic for this game, regardless of Frontier management. FDev has got my love.

PS: 1:30am and on my fifth Crown Royal drink. Believe I've lost it. I think I was really looking for an excuse for delay hitting the sack to get another drink and I'm now spurting out nonsense. My apologies!

Thanks for your detailed reply. In frustration, I stopped playing again. Each time I fire it up, the non-steam frontier front end says it's either got to be legacy or a six-hour update, every time. My internet isn't slow by any means either. You say you play the not-on-foot Odyssey version in VR? I'd really like to know how to do that.
