As the title says, I was wondering how folks enter diacritical marks (ö, á, etc) for ship names. I tried alt + numpad codes and just cutting and pasting and they won't enter or paste (with ctrl + v). Am I missing something?

Well, those are just grave accents, a specific group of diacritics. The OP mentioned acutes and umlauts which are a bit different beast.
On a Swedish I can have Ä and Ö but not Å.
Bug reported it in Beta - I'm sure it's high on their priority list
I tried switching keyboard languages and it seems like it's an ED issue. Ö seems to work, but when I try ó or á it just puts in a blank space. When I copy/paste these characters it does nothing. Seems like it's a bug. Maybe they'll fix it eventually.
