How to find Germanium?

You can usually shoot it off Geo sites (you have to find them with MK I eyeballs these days) but there was a bug where only basic stuff like iron was dropping. I don't know if that has been fixed yet.
You can trade up at a raw material trader, if all else fails.
You have to conquer it. Might not be easy though.
Drive around following the surface scanner until you find rocks - mesosiderites are probably the most likely to have Germanium in, but all of them might.
For a common G2 material like Germanium it doesn't really matter where, and specific surface sites (if the planet has any) are likely to actually be slower than just random rocks.

So glad you asked, the best way to get raw materials is to follow this guide, rather then going out and getting the actual one you want, its easier to go to this farming location, and load up on all of the grade 4 ones and trade down

+1More germane to the OP, if in Odyssey, switch to Horizons. Then shoot the rocks on the planetary surface. Finding Germanium isn't difficult at all.
Personally, with the exception of Selenium, I'd fly out to the crystalline shard sites and then trade down to max out my raw materials (which is what I have done in game for both accounts). Selenium has to be surface prospected (yeah I know, mostly^TM.)

Not according to the patch notes in the latest update.
Organics/Geologicals and Scatter
- An addition has been made to the Electricae shader to ensure it has an emissive core.
- Microresource and rock shaders have been updated to new PBR ones.
- A fiix has been made for Crystalline Shard mineable assets not spawning.
- A fix has been made for Mineables on Legacy organics/geologicals spawning in incorrect locations/with incorrect rotations.
- Visual improvements have been made to the Electricae organic and it's emissive core.
I agree with the above. Go to the shard sites in EDH (Horizons). And then a mat trader if still needed.
This had been fixed, I've been finding metallic meteorites and other stuff near POIs in Odyssey dropping the usual stuff.Sorry to say this, but Surface Mining is currently broken. No matter what you shoot, you will only get tier 1 material. This will surely be fixed eventually, the only question remains when this will be...

I don't think that this was announced. But it it was fixed in one of the hot fixes. Generally, I've been seeing at least one metallic meteorite nearby a POI about every other POI. There are always rocks nearby a POI.
I've stopped exploring planets because there is nothing to find but material giving rocks and meteorites and my mat bins are pretty full.
