How to find manganese and arsenic?

I need manganese and arsenic for the FSD engineer upgrades, but I just can't find it. Mining could take literally days and give almost nothing. There are material traders who are supposedly in star systems where there's an extraction/refinery economy, but I just can't find a single one...

If I ever find a good source of either, I'm going to collect as much as the game allows me. Sick of always running out of them...

The best way to find them is to use Inara's "Nearest" function. The in-game tools don't help much.

Put in your location and hit the Nearest Material Traders button. Then go to one that does Raw materials.

Once there, click on what you want (like Arsenic), and it'll show you what you have that you can trade for it (if you have anything!).

The traders do make things easier, despite their outrageous markup.

Is it time again?

Follow the Odyssey guidelines (second half of the OP) if you're in Live. Then go to one of the raw mat traders and fill your bins. In case you don't want to fly out there (it's a bit of a trip, especially if you haven't got an upgraded FSD yet), there's reportedly a more or less regular fleet carrier service out and back again. On the other hand, exploring the systems inbetween can be worth a pretty penny:

40 MCr. for scans, 140 MCr. for mapping - enough to become allied with at least on faction.

Arsenic is almost certainly easier to find something else and trade for - even on planets which have it, it's rare from general meteorites and outcrops, and not particularly good odds from volcanism either.

Manganese, however, is extremely common - most high-metal content landables have it (though check the system map first just in case) - and basic mesosiderites and outcrops will generally drop some. Depending on how many FSDs you're wanting to engineer, you can get enough from blowing up a single rock if you're lucky.

eddb.io How to find something there is fairly self-explanatory. When I first started playing in 2018, I found out about the Elite Dangerous Data Base (eddb) and that's how I located a good planet for finding arsenic.

Turns out that I am also completely out of datamined wake exceptions, and these seem to be even more elusive than manganese and arsenic...

Now those are indeed a pain to get. You can get them from scanning wakes, lots of wakes, but it's a very random drop. I admit to taking the Jameson's Crash route the last few times I needed those.

You can find system with Famine state, there find and fly to Distribution center. Every 2-3 minutes there wil show up 4 ship and after that they flew away and leave the wake. You need to scan it. It's fast, aftere you will scan the first 4 wakes, there will be another 4 new, so you will be bussy. DWE is possible to get that way, but you will get a lot of another Wakes and you can trade it for DWE.

The CG stations also usually are a good source. Although the CG is progressing only moderatley, Wilson City is usually quite busy whenever I show up.

Fit a wake scanner and find a system in famine (lots of traffic). Park a couple of kms from the station and the wakes keep appearing. A long range mod is useful, less chasing.
