How to fix/repair your ship without losing too much money

Hi, i recently came across a problem with my ship, i was nearly bankrupt, out of rebuy and damages to my ship needed a big million credit repair cost, so i was thinking... What if!
  • Use repair limpets to fix the hull
  • Use AFMs to repair modules
  • Use fuel scoop to get fuel from the main star
Fuel scoop on one hand isn't that important but still saves a few creds, but the repair limpet and AFM one is the BIG money saver, just use a bunch of AFMs to fix all thr broken modules (you need to do this outside of stations while undocked, for the repair limpets you just to get a few cargo racks, get the biggest repair limpet size you can, exit the station (don't forget to buy the limpets) and just sit there repairing the hull, this might take some time to do depending on your ship's size but it will pay off for the effort, although i haven't tested this on small ships, but one thing is for sure, if you fly a big ship these methods are in the bank.

Can anyone test this for smaller ships?
Oh and if you switch modules while they are damaged do you get the same outcome for selling or exchanging for a new module?

While AFMUs can save you repair costs this entire train of thought is pointless as you shouldn't be flying without a rebuy, ever. It's the most dangerous thing you can do as anything going wrong might cost you the entire ship and reduce you to nothing. Undocking to mess around with the AFMU or doing other weird shenanigans is a risk you should not take when you are not able to rebuy the ship.

The issue here therefore isn't saving repair costs but the fact that you were flying a ship you couldn't afford or sustain in terms of income. When facing such a situation one should immediately sell the ship or modules and downgrade to a smaller ship until one has gained enough of a buffer to transition to the more expensive ship again - else it ends sooner or later in tears.

you could also sell damaged modules and buy them back. when bought back your damaged modules are now fully repaired for no cost. though i admit to using this exploit along time ago. i don't now :)

Yes i know about the rebuy thing, i was well armed when this happened so i stripped down a bit and got more money for rebuy, i was flying the new Type 10, was trying to teach my friend how to play the game but ended up costing me back a lot, but in the end it all worked out ok, of course i was doing all these experiments while in solo, i'm now trying this baby out and giving it a spin on mining, it's so efficient, it just depletes an asteroid in under half a minute

It's fairly well-accepted that it's more cost-efficient to repair a ship yourself rather than paying to do it.

The underlying issue, however, is that if you need to worry about the cost of repairing the ship you're flying, you probably shouldn't be flying it.

So uh, what's cheaper to fly than the rental Sidewinder? I got 30% hull and all of 735 credits to my name.
