How to form wing: ED Steam (me) with ED Epic Games (friends)

UPDATE: I didn't know this because I've been spoiled by my Steam friends list, but to add an Epic Games ED user, search for their in-game CMDR name, and not their Epic Games username. Issue resolved.

Hi! I have a bunch of friends that just installed ED from the Epic Games promotion. How do I play with them? My Social tools in my ED can only see my Steam friends list? Or is there no multiplayer between Epic and Steam launched versions of ED?

Something not right there. I have no Steam friends who play Elite Dangerous and all of my friends in-game I have found in-game.

I don't even launch using Steam and have no idea how my ED friends launch the game.

I've just figured it out. Turns out that you don't search for the Epic Games user name, but the CMDR name registered to Frontier. When I searched for the Frontier name, not the Epic Games user name, it found my friend that was failing before. His Epic name was "something21" and he named the CMDR "something". When I searched for the something21, it failed. When I searched for the something, it worked!

So that's the trick then. It's not the game launcher user name, but the Frontier in-game name.
