how to get a bounty - without doing something wrong

So, there is a lot of posts of people who accidentally shoot someone and end up getting a bounty, and think that is a problem... Well you are wrong, you deserve a bounty! I know its annoying, but if you shoot someone, and if its just by accident... well you where playing around with guns in the first place. This Post is not about that.

So I was in Buricasses, helping out the empire a bit with their latest disagreement with those annoying guys from durius.

I was in a combat zone, flagged for the Imperial Side ("Citizen of Tradition") and had already succesfully neutralized several threads to the empire. At some point i noticed a Python, belonging to the hostile faction, which was firing at me, so i started firing back. A fight much longer then i was hoping for ensued, in whichs course the engines of that python blew up (got to 0%), and the Python started tumbling away quite fast (even with 4 pips my viper had problems keeping up, i had to boost contantly to stay within a proper engagement range).
Somehow the python managed to get shields around this already badly shot up piece of flying metal, and i have no idea why, but it took me an tremendous amount of time and ammunition to knock it down again.
When i finally managed to kill this diehard python, i was pretty far away from the original combat site entry point, and worse: i got a bounty of 5k credits for that kill, instead of the 3k combat bond that i should have gotten.

Apparently, if you get to far away from a combat zone, the npc will stop counting as a valid combat zone target, and you will be punished severly for engagement.

I think that is.. problematic behaviour at least, as it doesn't make sense AND is hard to prevent (you usually don't know how far you are away, or at what point that problem manifests)
