How to get inside tharagoids base

So I went to the thargoid base in Hip 19026 with UA and UP in my srv only to find the door wouldn't open. I thought having UP and UA triggered the door to open? I must be missing something .. Annoyingly I was focussed so much on getting in I didn't notice my srv cockpit failure and ran out of oxygen! I will plan on going back but before I do I must ask how do you get the doors to open?

Not all the Alien bases are accessible.

The one you went to, isn't. :p

Check out this list for the full information:- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...N0-mnS6BFqhe4va648J1wwnag/edit#gid=1403369018

Also, if you lost your SRV while it contained a UA and UP, when you fly back to a station and replace your SRV you will probably find that you miraculously get your UA and UP back at the same time. ;)

*EDIT*

As to the actual question, if a base IS accessible, the doors open automatically when you drive up to them while carrying an unknown device.

I also found a way to fly inside the base the other night. I was playing around, and for no apparent reason decided to fly down to the crown above the central chamber (i.e. the roof). I don't know what happened, but it let me through! I was flying through the base in my AspX. Flew around for a few minutes, but when I left again I couldn't repeat it. :)

But for the normal method... As Factabulous said, just one of UA or UP in your SRV hold should do it. Though you'll need both if you want to start the light show (door will open if you have either or both on-board).

That site is inactive (i.e you cannot get inside) - pick a red site as they will open: https://map.canonn.technology/us/

lol, well spotted. Didn't even check the location.

I imagine the OP missed the signs in game that would have told him that particular alien base didn't work.

*shakes head and goes back to stealing things*

Don't think there are any - if the doors don't open then you can't get in, before then it's difficult to tell.

Pretty sure there are rocks up against the doors of the inactive bases which aren't there on the accessible ones.

Not sure if that holds true of all bases though.

Yeah, rocks and rubble (rubble inside even active bases). FD actually did a better job than the Guardian ruins (which are exactly the same) - Thargoid ruins vary more (rocks, blocked tunnels, different spread of scavengers, differences in the site outer structures) (which is why some people are convinced they are growing, but let's not go there).

Should point out that dropping a UA/UP in the door is fine, but they can roll a long way when you drop them - don't end up on the opposite side of the door, and if you get a disconnect you will lose it!

Also if you go with only a UA you can get in (which is cool), but you cannot activate the machine (not cool). More info in the last link in my sig, UP are apparently easier to find now from USS near Merope 6 (I have heard).

The one I was to had two doors blocked by rubble but one was open. And now that I'm typing it I'm wondering why there were three doors and not four. Doesn't fit with the octagonal pattern...

What?! Damn it, I've been based in Merope all week. I didn't even know there was an Ammonia world there. :D I spent an hour fruitlessly orbiting a world 60Ly away the other night, after I foolishly lost my first UP. I really should pay more attention to system maps.

( Incidentally, I can't rep you any more. Stop talking sense.)

On that note, I suppose I should have said "inactive doors" rather than "inactive bases".

You can, of course, get some doors open only to find the base inside is collapsed and no further interaction is possible.

I haven't yet seen a fully-operational base that has any blocked doors though.
Seems like, if a base has all 3 functional doors, it's going to have a functional machine inside it.
Conversely, if a base has a non-functional door, it's probably not going to have much inside.

Dunno if that's correct but it's always been that way for the bases I've seen.

There were discussions as they were found which complained about active vs inactive, as the sites are so different.

Active means you can activate the machine, it's not about whether there are scavengers active, doors active etc.
