How to get rid of hostile status with a given faction

What would be the best way to crawl my way back up the reputation ladder with a faction that's hostile towards me? What I'm trying now is sneaking into the space stations and taking on bulletin missions, but there aren't many to begin with (aprox. one in half an hour).

go on a huge explorer run and sell ALL your data at the desired faction's stations. that'll increase your rep steadily.
