Newcomer / Intro How to get to Beagle Point?

It's not as easy as I thought it would be, wasn't really prepared for the Abyss lol.

I am coming in from an "odd" angle, meaning I did not pot a course straight from Sol. I decided to plan my route counter clockwise going to the vicinity of Colonia first and then around Sag A.

Now I am finding myself at the edge of the Abyss and am having a hard time plotting a course on to Beagle Point.

Any tips on how to make plotting a course a bit easier?

It's not as easy as one might think if your ship has limited range.

The early explorers who did it first prior to engineering charted the route and it should still be in the forum archives if you do a search.

IIRC you need at least 30 ly jump range and then you have to go by way of a route that allows you to cross the abyss that takes you off to the right side by a fair amount of travel before coming back toward BP.

Well, what's your jump range, and where exactly are you? The edges of the Abyss (the in-game region) vary a lot. In the worst case, you might want to cross over to the Western border of the Acheron region and head West into the Abyss from there.
But well, it's all dependent on your jump range, really. About 35 ly will get you through in most places easily enough, unless you're trying to cross into the Abyss from the West, so heading Eastward.

Also, for the route plotter, a general tip if it fails is to try plotting to a closer destination first, and to disable star type filtering if you use that.

Oh, sorry forgot to mention I pilot a fully engineered ASP Explorer with a jumprange of just under 65ly.
🤣
Just point it and go. That is, if you collected enough Jumponium.

Nah, serioulsy - the old published routes were discovered and refined for ships with 32...35 ly max range. If you want to take a look, search for the Rock Rat Run (that one seems to have diasappeared, though), Route 33 or, if everything fails, Roncevaux Crossing.

Thanks for the replies. I am currently in Pyru Thua HU-Q c18-0, so basically just southeast of Beagle Point. Sounds like I need to continue out west for a bit more, then hang a left to go north and then try replotting again. Haven't been able to find many neutron stars though. In terms of jumponium, I've never figured out how exactly to get it to work but perhaps I need to take another look.

oh there....well, there is a thin single way there to Beagle and behind it continues 20 more jumps for engineered ships.
I have visited Ceeckia XR-N c9-0 there, try to start from it.

Ah well, you should. Beats walking the long way round.
Right side HUD ("internal") screen, inventory tab, down to synthesis, then look for jump range boost or somesuch. You'll need some more or less rare materials for that, but you can collect them all on suitable planets (if you brought an SRV, maybe also with a suit). The lower grade stuff you can also shoot from asteroids - if you brought a mining laser.

EDSM marks known systems where (in theory) all jumponium ingredients can be found as "green" systems.

Yeah my first visit back in 2017 was with a 44 lyr dolphin ( my explorer of choice) and I had no issues jumping across . I went straight up from sag a ( I was closer to beagle than I ever had been and decided to go for it ) and then returned via colonia. And then again a couple of years in a 55 lyr dolphin . ( I went round to visit all 42 sectors of the Galaxy )

Sometimes, the in-game route plotter isn't as reliable as external tools. You could try the Spansh Galaxy Plotter and compare routes.

It's from before my time, but there's a way through The Abyss called Route 33. As long as you can jump 33 Ly, you can follow this.

If you haven't already moved this should work. Though you will have to work out Jumponium ;)
