How to get to COL 70 (or as close as possible to its core)

Hello there!

I am planning to travel to COL 70 to search for the mayday signals, but I did read somewhere that you need to follow an specific route and actually maybe need some good range. Is that correct? If so, can anyone point me how to get there and what jump capability should I have ideally?

Cheers!

COL 70 is a huge region, did you have a particular area in mind?

If you want to get near Barnard's Loop then head towards Rigel first, and once there head towards EZ Orionis.

This just denotes how little I know of the area :D. I have not any particular area in mind, just following the Galnet article about the rally point and heading there to investigate :). Thanks for the advise, will keep it in mind if I need to get to Barnard's loop.

Plot to Mintaka and then Spirograph Nebula. Not because it contains any secrets, but because it's gorgeous. So is the Blue Light beacon at Mintaka, actually

You can get to Orion from Rigel, and from there Orion Dark Region going through Barnard's Loop. You can get up to Messier 78 which is very pretty, and you can get right up next to Horsehead nebula, but not in it. There's a wall all the way to Cone Nebula which you can go along, but not in. And you can't get to within 100LY of Cone. It's a huge area. I've spent quite some time there

once 2.3 lands i think it might be worthwhile spending some more time there even if intially it isnt unlocked

Was out there last week. if there's a path to be found I didn't see it, but it's a huge region and without any clue where to start that was the expected result. Unexpected was that I actually made some first discoveries, given that's such a well trod path.

Yeah I was thinking of heading out there myself, and like the OP I thought that was a singular system not a sector of stars lol. Thanks for posting, if you find anything out there that'd be great if you post what you find.

Your route plotter will navigate around permit locked systems, so as long as you find at least one system in the vicinity that is not permit locked, your ship should be able to calculate a route to it, although it will give up if it has to make too big a detour.

Like Obsidian Ant said - aim for EZ Orionis. There's a path through the centre of Barnard's Loop, but you can't actually get inside the Horsehead Nebula itself.

Good luck! There's some beautiful sights there.

Unless it has changed recently, all COL 70 sectors are permit locked and there is no way to gain the permit as far as I know. Maybe it will be unlocked when there will be the Drew Wagar event ingame with the wanted imperial senator who has been pinpointed here.

Damn, then it comes the great question: Shall I bring the ASPx, with a jump of almost 37LY but less modules, or bring the Python, that just jumps 27LY but has more modules and weaponry?
Decisions, decisions...

You won't need weapons when exploring. Also, a good AspX exploration build will have all the modules you need.
