How to give Kit Fowler 5 surveillance units?

I cannot put 5 surveillance units in my backpack to give Kit Fowler. I have split 5 off in my ship and placed in the backpack but as as soon as I disembark they go back to storage. If I do the exact same thing without landing at a station ie a mission station or something similar then they will stay in the backpack. Am I missing something silly?

Hello,
You do not need to do anything. They will be removed from your inventory as part of the transaction process. Same with any of the other engineers that have an up front cost.

You don't need to do that with the surveillance stuff for Kitty but as a rule if you want to transfer stuff its best to do it when in the blue ring outside your ship.

The problem is when I talk to him and use the option to give him the items, I cannot give him anything as clicking on the arrows for the amount he requires does nothing. I hasve also tried standing in the blue ring outside my ship but again it will not allow me to move anything.
