How to go about Kill Pirates missions?

I've to kill 2 Pirates at LTT1?2?3. I went there and hung around the Navigation beacon. I killed 2 'wanted' ships. How do I know if they are actually pirates and if I've completed my mission? And is this the best way to go about this kind of mission? Would I better super-cruising from one USS to another instead?

Also to give me some scope, what would be a harder fight, a Master Pilot in a SW or a Harmless Pilot in an Viper or other ship that outclasses me?

Stalk the USS. If someone cargo scans you they are either cops or pirates.

Also if you get interdicted in SC just submit and blast away.

Pirates will always float up toward you and put something in the Comm window about wondering what you have they could take. The easiest way to do the USS'es is to just supercruise at 0% throttle (30 km/sec) until one pops up in front of you because you can target and immediately drop into it. As for the ships, the skill rank is a big clue to the sorts of weapons and armor it'll have so a Master SW with really hard hitting turreted beam lasers or missiles will be much more dangerous than a Harmless viper or cobra with nothing but wimpy non-gimballed multicannons.
