Newcomer / Intro How to handle Dormant bounty ?

I'm sorry I create second thread today, but I really need some inputs ... appreciate it in advance. OK, this is story :

I was in tough combat (Kill mission) with Fer-de-Lace (my target). Then group of "clean" guys came in - probably to help. Nobody requested them, nobody needed them - their help was absolute unnecessary (badguy was at 15%). Then, in the mess, my weapons relocked from mission target to another guy and I gave him some laser's shots. In this moment all ships started to shoot at me ... the result - I was dead in several seconds ... got the message I was killed by Lord XYZ (my target). Of course I returned and killed him several minutes later ..

But, and this is worse, I got dormant bounty "400cr in LeMat Partnership" and I can't remove it now .. I did my best, but no result :

- I bought Sidie and went to system LHS 3262, where LeMat Partnership is controling faction - they own some stations. I flew to SyBase, asked for docking, was scanned and killed by Policemen. I expected it .. thus OK .. but .. dormant bounty stays ... the same amount :/

- I rebought Sidie and went to system again, entered USS-Weapons Fire detected .. and shot once on Police ship .. guess what .. I was killed, immediately, but dormant bounty stays and increases to 800cr.

- I rebought Sidie, went to system again to SyBase station - no docking, no entering station, just flew around it .. I hoped somebody would scan and kill me .. nope .. I was flying there like a fatty duck for 10 minutes - no response at all ....

- I entered USS-Weapons Fire and found two pirates and one unfortunate Type-6 ship. I shot that poor guy once .. just one small shot .. shame on me .. but I needed to be active WANTED. Yes .... then my dormant bounty became active - I got status WANTED.

I was so happy .. went to SyBase station, asked to dock, let them scan me .. and Policemen killed me in second. Great ? No ... DORMANT bounty is still there !!! .. increased to 1.200cr .. bad news .. not speaking of my Federation rep :-/

Now the questions .. It seems I really got stuck in this endless loop (I have dormant bounty, Policeman scans me, bounty becomes active, they he kills me and bounty becomes dormant again) I'm unable to solve this situation on myself .. it means I have to wait untill dormant bounty will expire (counter is 6Days 20mins now) and then it will change to fine ...

In the meantime I believe I should avoid some systems and need to know some additional details (I really don't want to waste 1M+ credits for unnecessary ship rebuy because of some stupid accident/misunderstanding).

LeMat Parntership is currently present in 5 system, but they control just one - LHS 3262 (see table here). In 4 other ones they have just small influence ..

May I assume, only LHS3262 is really "dangerous" for me and thus should be avoided for next 7 days?

Does it mean I'm safe in all others systems all around (I believe System Authorities strictly belong to major/controlling faction). Am I right ?

May I assume after 7 days this bounty will expire and turn into fine, which I'd be able to pay via some interstellar contacts ?

I spent some time in this area of universe, building good relationship and try to gain higher rep to access better missions. It means, I'd like to stay in this area if possible ...

Am I correct (my conclusions above), or do I miss something ?

I think your dormant bounty will have a timer on it. Wait for this timer to expire then you can pay it off. I got into a similar situation trying to do a high security base skimmer destruction mission. In the end I abandoned the mission, took the reputation hit then went to a different system where I was not wanted. After a week I was able to return to the system where I picked up the bounty and paid it off.

Dan, thank you for reply ...

yes, there is a timer and I believe it will solve my problem (change to fine) after one week .. But I'd like to stay in this area (good rep = good deals), just try to avoid some particular systems. The question is, which ones are those "dangerous" for me now .. if only that one (LHS 3226) or whole area could be problematic ... I still believe System Authority ships belongs to controlling faction .. thus only LHS2326 should be avoided, but I'm not sure ..

Your bounty is active in their jurisdiction, whether that's a system or the area around a base or station.

The sidewinder trick requires you to spawn in their jurisdiction to pay off your debt.

if I understand your advice correctly, then entering station without beeing scanned (like smuggling) should work ?
I mean .. from safe distance ask docking permission, then enter station as fast as possible to avoid scan, land .. exit to menu a back to game ...

Anyway thank you for reply [up]

Or just work nearby & let the bounty expire to a fine. Leave report crimes against me on to deal with any bounty hunters that might be sent your way.

You will always rebuy at the last station you landed in. If you have a bounty, including domant, fine or legacy fine you will have to pay it off as part of the rebuy.

So Metatheurgist's advice more completely written would be:
1. Smuggle yourself into their station.
2. Take off.
3. Get Killed.
4. Pay bounty with the rebuy.
(No exit to menu required.)

I think the dormant bounty will re-activate when scanned by the security force in any system they have a presence in. Getting killed after landing at any of those stations would allow you to pay off the bounty.

You can also pay the legacy fine directly at any station where the faction has a presence without going through the broker.

If your sense of what is right and fair in the game permits, you can also ignore legacy fines until you die after last landing in a station with the fining faction. Just make sure you remember the legacy fine as part of your rebuy.

I'd go with those who are telling you to hang around elsewhere for a week. A little while back, I accidentally picked up a bounty* with a faction that I'd worked with extensively. I just accepted it and moved along until it was clear. A week's not long, and you can find a hell of a lot of stuff to do in that time.

*I say accidentally, it was more that I killed a clean (NPC) novice for having the temerity to bother me whilst I was sitting out a ten minute trespass bounty. He deserved what he got.

I've got a bounty on my CMDR that will run out tomorrow. I'm not doing anything differently. But then I avoid getting scanned by authority ships out of habit now anyway.

It helps to turn off report crimes though, as this stops the cops from turning up when you are fighting a pirate.

If you want to lose the bounty by using the suicide method, you have to get the sidewinder into the station without getting scanned. If they scan you on the way in, you get killed and have to start the process again.

Once you've landed at the station, you can take off and get killed to remove the bounty. If it's dormant, you can't kill yourself, but you can if it's still active. for dormant ones, you have to parade yourself in front of the cops until they scan you.

For a 400cr bounty, all you do is jump to another system and wait until it expires. That's normally 8 minutes. I'm not sure how long it lasts when it goes dormant. Anyone know?

Don't bounties that small go straight to Legacy Fine? I've had a bunch of 10 minute trespassing bounties, a couple of hundred credits at a time, and I don't recall them having a dormant stage. I may well be wrong.

It's all fine until you get killed before they expire - then they turn into a dormant bounty. Generally happens when folk ignore/forget what happens when you get any bounty & hang around near security...

That's right. As soon as you get a small bounty, you have to get out of there unless you understand the consequences and really know what you're doing, then the bounty will change to a fine after 8 minutes.

If you get killed with the small bounty, it becomes dormant, and I have a feeling that you're stuck with it for a week, but it's 2 years since that happened to me, so I can't remember for sure. I'm hoping that someone can confirm one way or another.

As others have mentioned, when I say spawn I mean dying and restarting. Loading the game doesn't count as spawning in my elite definitions. I believe just self-destructing once you've docked in the bounty jurisdiction works.

Only if the bounty is active.

Guys, thank you for your replies and comments. My bounty is now 1.200Cr (after all those vain attempts to remove it) - 6 days, several hours .... I'll stay in the area, just will avoid one system - it should work. If not, I'll let you know :) Anyway I'm smarter a little bit for future adventures :) [up] or maybe will start some travel meantime and will add some points to my Exploration rank ..

BTW .. is it possible the game (engine) becomes spiteful sometimes (or maybe as your rank rises) ? Yesterday I got two fines ..
Leaving station, I flew slowly (speeding little bit, but really not much, let say 125). Was flying straight, no turns .. then another ship hit me from behind ... and immediately got message "200 crs fine" ... second event was quite similar .. entering station, just in the "doors" (and I was at the proper/green side) another ship just appeared in front of me and hit me .. again .. 500crs fine .. I know those affairs happen sometimes (got some fines due to driving offence already), but it seems to be more often nowadays .. maybe higher rank, maybe new ship (Vulture), maybe more assassinate missions or maybe just feeling ... ?
