Newcomer / Intro How to help a friend to get some Credits?

Hey fellow Commanders,

I have just convinced one of my friends to play Elite Dangerous :)
But I want to give him some credits to kickstart his career as a commander.
I know it is not intended to give credits directly to other players and the method with buying expensive goods and dropping them so that he can collect and sell them is a bit no fun.
So what other means are there to help him to get some credits?

I heard that if you are in a Wing and you do some trading, a certain percentage is given to your other mates in the wing? Is that true?
Is bounty hunting also a valid method? I mean he will be at a safe distance and I destroy wanted ships?

Thanks for your advice!

If you trade in a wing, every wing member is getting 5% of every other wing member's profits. So if you're in a Cutter or T9, you'll be giving them some decent money, every hop.

But the bounty hunting is much better option. First - it's 50/50 share of bounties (they have to hit the target at least once) and more importantly, it's the opportunity for you to teach them how to take care of themselves.

You know what they say - Give man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's gonna be warm for the rest of his life.
Wait, that doesn't sound right. :D

Rather than give him credits, take him to the nearest high RES. He'll make about 1 mil per hour there on his own. In a basic Sidewinder, nobody will shoot him as long as the Feds or anybody else shoots them first.

Everyone in the wing get a full share now. It's crap because it means lone wolf commanders work harder but get paid less, but on the other hand it encourages people to wing and work together. Would've preferred some sort of incremental bonus like a trade dividend though.

Really? Is it a 2.4 thing? I haven't been BHing much, lately and when I was it was alone. That kinda sucks. And it doesn't make sense, on top of that. Oh well. Better for a newbie, I guess. /

Yep, can't tell you exactly when it went in though, might have been 2.3. It's a 2 edged sword; I can see the benefits but it goes against the idea of working harder producing better results.

There's only one way to transfer. Via commodity.

Though there are a few hyper valuable commods in the game worth around 50_100k per unit.

Antiquities
Low temp diamonds.
Diplomatic bags.

Amongst a few..

At 75k per unit in a medium hold of say 100 units, is 7.5milo CR, get the newb to use collection limpets, some quiet place or more than 10k from a station to avoid fines.

If he's a noob, he'll be in a Sidewinder, which means that if he carries a collectot limpet controller, he'll have no room for cargo (4T max).

It's a complete waste of time donating cargo to a noob, and pretty boring for both sides. Unless you have already spent hours collecting really juicy cargo, like alien stuff, you can make credits faster in a high RES and it's a lot more fun because it feels dangerous even though it isn't.

I started by doing Multi Crew with a friend. We took his Federal Corvette into a RES and I flew the fighter. It's a good intro for a new player because they don't risk anything and even if they get your fighter destroyed, they're cheap to replace.

This has risks though, if your buddy is a new player and hits a non wanted target you could find yourself in trouble fast as the police jump on the entire wing, not just him. Given that those big ships have huge respawn costs, the risk can be fairy high for you.

Easiest way is wing up and do some bounty hunting. You can bring a powerful ship with a low respawn cost (Like a Vulture) and if your buddy screws up, it doesn't hurt that much. Plus, as others said.. it teaches him how to bounty hunt so he can make money on his own.

The easy way for a newbe to get credits fast that I found when I was just starting was the "Road to Riches" route. With this method you get explorer rank and it is not tedious. Follow this link for an explanation of the process, https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/6hhcpq/road_to_riches_web_app/ , and the app that gives you a route to follow is at http://edtools.ddns.net/expl.php

To use this effectively, you need a ship with some jump range capability like an asp explorer with no weapons and you need an Advanced Discovery Scanner and a Detailed Surface Scanner. The scanners are pricey but worth the money. Using this method I racked up about 250 mil in credits and got up to Pathfinder rank.

That's a great idea. In solo mode, go to a low RES in your Cutter/Corvette, blow up every innocent ship until you have 1,000,000cr bounty on you. That's about 150 ships. Change ships to a basic sidewinder with no shields, switch to your own private group and let him blow you up. Alterntively, you could fill up your Cutter with 1 mil worth of illicit goods, then go and pull faces at the feds until they scan you. That will give you a 1 mil fine. Wait a week until it changes to a bounty, then change to then SW and let him blow you up.

Both methods would be a lot of fun, but I guarantee that I could make 10 times more money in a basic Sidewinder in a high RES without anyone landing a single shot on me in the same time.

Take him on his first mini exploration trip, jump/scoop/scan is an important skill!

Try this:

1. Do the ‘welcome CMDR’ mission in Eravate.
2. Go to Cleve Hub and D rate the FSD, distributor, sensors & life support & buy worst fuel scoop/ also sell weapons.
3. Plot course for Alrai Sector ON-T b3-2 (it’s 5 jumps, 30ish LY)
4. Honk & scan water world
5. Travel 20ly to Icovit, sell data and buy Detailed Surface Scanner and upgrade Sidewinder.
6. Do a second pass of Alrai Sector ON-T b3-2 and detailed surface scan the water world.
7. Back to Eravate/Cleve Hub.

This will unlock Surveyor rank in exploration, Felicity Farseer, an A rated Sidewinder and 1m credits left to spend. Also cordial status with Adle’s Armada...

So glad they made this change - before it wasn't worth winging up.

Why spend an hour with friends so you can make 1/4 the rewards - was truly a disincentive to wings.

As far as work it's the same. If your solo you have the system authority to help you out, if you're in a wing you might have your wingmates help

Except that hazres has no security and that's where the highest payout lives. Not to mention a wing of engineered ships will chew up bounties faster than any security wing. I've actually stopped to watch security wings fail to kill things for hours.

IMHO: it's nice you want to help your friend, but I'm affraid by doing it you are going to take some (or maybe most) fun away from him too .... :-(

It's not really difficult to earn some credits, even for beginners .. especially credits in amount which is really needed (and useful) for beginner. He doesn't need 50M, 100M, 200+ to buy Pythons, condas, dropships etc .. as he will have NO idea what to do with them .. how to equip, how to use/handle, what's their strong and weak points etc ... all those knowledge should come from your own experience ... as credits do .. it's fun ... I remember (several weeks ago, as I'm rookie also) I found to have enough credits to buy Cobra ... it was such great moment .. I spent a lot of time on coriolis, deciding how to outfit it, struggling with power consumption and limited number of slots etc .. :) I remember how happy I was when I got invitation from Farseer ... I thought probably I'm "chosen one" .. :) I'm 55 years old fool, but I really enjoyed all those moments (and still I do) ... but .. if I get all progress for free (even as a gift from my best friend) the game could be boring (again my _HUMBLE_ opinion)
