How to hide from security after pirating?

Every now and then, I interdict a piñata T6/7/9 filled to the brim. I manage to take some of its cargo, but not all of it, before the security shows up. And that's when I pack my 7 things and FSD out of there.
I recently tried to hide by going cold (9% heat + silent running), but they still saw me and openend fire. So I ran.

Is there any way I can stay hidden and wait for the security to leave so I can resume scooping up the goods?

Go to RH UI and turn off "report crimes against me" in the end column the T7/8/9 is probably firing back and the Feds will respond and try and "help" you. They will tehn see you as wanted and go for you

Other thing I might suggest id take some cargo limpits and set them collecting the cargo while you fight the feds - quite often let the limpets collect while I fight of the pirates when im mining

I'd rather not fight them because of the bounty increase and...I probably won't win anyway. I don't think I can handle 5 enemies at once in my little cobra...or it may be a lack of skill.

It's true, while on the one hand I appreciate a quick and strong police reaction, it makes scooping up larger amounts of cargo close to impossible.

To really be of any assistance to the victim they are still too slow, though.

Only solution currently is to be clean in the system you are pirating in, so the interdiction itself doesn't count as a crime (just a fine) and hope the trader gives in to your demands without trying to flee, so you can scoop the stuff in peace. If traders try to run, with the current police implementation, I just kill them, because the booty is lost anyway.

Try pirating in Anarchy systems or the ones with Low security rating (check on System Map).

You can't really hide from them when they show up, silent running doesn't do much. You can however increase the response time by pirating in other systems.

Check the system map and look for the security rating. You want to pirate mostly in low, or medium in a pinch. Security response time is also based on distance from stations and planets. So you want to hit them as close to the star as possible.

You could try pirating in anarchy systems there are no cops there to show up. Also, traders, even npc ones are infrequent. You may have better luck than me but watch out for the npc pirates. They'd attack you same as anyone else, no honor among thieves I guess. Bounty hunters will also pull you over.

The problem is, unlike in previous Elite games, there is no incentive for traders to go to these systems in ED. If you want to pirate you have to go where the traders are, and that's usually not in Anarchies or Low Sec systems.

Tbh I currently gave up hope that piracy will ever be a viable role in ED. No matter what they are doing, they always make sure piracy remains pointless:

- Piracy was pointless from the beginning, because scooping up more than ~20 tons or so of cargo, before it vanished was impossible.
- After a long time they finally introduced collector limpets... I thought "Cool, finally piracy is possible". But at the same time they limited the maximum amount of cargo in an instance to 20, completely negating the potential usefulness of drones, so piracy was still pointless.
- Then, after a while they increased that limit to 100 tons. Again I thought "Fine, let's get to work". But again the excitement didn't last long. This time they changed the reaction of security forces to a point where it's still too slow to aid a victim of a pirate attack, but just quick enough to prevent the pirates from scooping up their booty -> Piracy is still pointless.

The OP didn't mention CMDR traders specifically, but he wanted to know how to avoid security ships. I do realise that pirating and smuggling needs more love (the latter especially), but this isn't really what the OP was talking about and I only offered advice on what they asked for.

Oh, right, you beat me to it... totally forgot to mention that pirating NPCs is even more pointless ;)

I can't comment on this because I didn't do much pirating... and it's really off topic to the OP, so we better stop here.

Not necessarily, if you can find a low security, pure extraction or extraction/refinery system with stations close to the star, you can make some money. Too bad limpets are so bad or you could make more.

That is good to know, thanks! But it's still a bit of gamble as you never quite know how far the interdiction takes you away from the star and closer to a station. I don't suppose there is a chart somewhere which tells how long it takes for the cops to show up based on the distance to the nearest station?

And yes, I was inquiring about NPC victims, not players. Piracy can be profitable (OK'ish), if you know where to do it :)

Regarding collector limpets:
Once you fired it off, just follow it around so that the limpet basically has only a 1-way trip to each canister...but be careful not to ram it.
